Girls how would you feel if your boyfriend cried in front of you?

My girlfriend finally persuaded me to tell her about my childhood/ family. I told the whole history of cheating, divorce etc and how I’d felt like I was being used as a pawn by my parents against each other and how I’d felt I had to be strong/emotionless and set a good example for my little brother. I felt relieved finally being able to tell someone everything. But then my girlfriend started weeping, and then I started weeping. We hugged/kissed and she told me how sad the story made her and how strong I must have been. We seem to be even closer now than we were before. I’m just worried that she sees me as less masculine than before. Girls, how would you feel in her situation?

My girlfriend’s cried a few times in front of me, usually when we’ve been watching romantic movies together, lol. But, I’ve never cried in front of her. In fact, that’s the first time I’ve cried in front of anyone since before my teens.

I think it takes a real man to cry and let out his emotions. Because keeping it all bottled up like most guys can be so destructive. I know what it's like to be in your position, well I mean, I'm a girl, but I've gone through all the same things. I wasn't even sure if they loved me until I was 13. I would feel closer to you than ever if I was in your girlfriend's situation. I told my boyfriend about my childhood, and let out emotions I'd always hidden from other people, it made me feel good, knowing that he cared. My boyfriend has a problem with staying strong for me though, when I cry he comforts me and tries his best not to cry even though I can see it in his eyes.

how old were you when your parents separated. because I had the same experience especially being strong and not allowing acknowledgement or expression of vulnerable emotions.

I decided thought I had to be strong because my parents seemed vulnerable as well as my brothers. And because their apparent vulnerability made me feel repulsed and I didn't want to emulate them.

None of this makes me feel bad though when I think about t. it just 'is'.

So I ask how old you were because maybe it doesn't bother me because I was only 3. I took everything in very matter of factly and that was just life. however, I think it devastated my brothers and my sister who were all older.

I was way older actually, 12, though family disputes were happening long before and after. My brother was 5 and doesn't remember much about it. The worst thing was I didn't receive any good example of how to socialize with the opposite sex. So I had to teach myself. Sometimes I feel like a walking cliche of love poetry and Hollywood rom-coms, LOL. But I'm much better than I was. My childhood hardly ever upsets me. It's just actually being loved by someone made me emotional, I guess.

I guarantee she doesn't see you as less masculine. In my opinion, you probably appear more because you let your guard down and wept. There is NOTHING wrong with a man weeping. Being whiny over silly stuff is one thing, but weeping over something that is Obviously painful is different. It also says something about your feelings for her. Most of y'all do that whole "men aren't supposed to cry" thing, so when a man cries in front of me, I take it as he loves and trusts me that I won't judge him as "being less than a man". If any woman ever thinks of you as less masculine, they can answer to me.

Crying is not a sign of not being masculine. You had a hard time, you need to get it out of your system and crying could feel like it helps. It's not like you cried because a little frog died or something, you know, it's quite some serious things you've been through and I feel it's totally normal you cried. If I were in the same situation as your girlfriend, I wouldn't think you're any less of a man.

I would feel bad that he was feeling such sadness but I would feel happy (happy is not the right word but close enough) in the sense that he is comfortable enough to cry in front of me. It's a bonding experience, not one to make me feel any less of him.

I think that is so sweet that you were able to open up like that! I know how hard it can be for some men to be able to do that and I'm sure it took a lot of guts to do it. If you cried in front of me it would tell me how much you cared that your girlfriend knew about you and it would show me you were human.

I would think it is less masculine myself. Honestly, I know that sounds mean. Yet I think it is such a wonderful thing for you to be able to trust her like that and be able to open up to her on such a touchy topic.

I mean who cares really what she thinks if you cried in front of her, if it brought the two of you closer together that's a wonderful thing. I'm not saying next time cry again but hey it was a beneficial thing for the two of you in this relationship.

i think that is so precious, and brave of you to be able to open up to someone like that. personally if I was in that situation and my boyfriend cried in front of me, it would just make me feel even more closer to him and even more protective and the only thing I'll want to do is make him smile again.

Oh my poor baby! My boyfriend cried in front of me one time and at first I was alarmed that he was tearing up but never did I think he was less manly for it. I got to hold him and comfort him...or let myself be held I guess...considering he has me by 13 inches and 75 lbs.

I would feel closer to my man. Guys don't tend to show a vulnerable side of themselves this way so it would be intimate; experiencing a part of them that isn't normally seen. And, for the record, there is NOTHING wrong with having emotions or crying!
