Why does my boyfriend babytalk so much?

By babytalk I mean the cutesy talk and petnames and whatnot but also a more soft/cute/baby voice (which is mostly what I don't like about it). We are both in our early 20s. I love him and I enjoy it sometimes but I can only take so much. He does it most often on the phone. I've told him that I don't like it all the time, and when I'm not in a good mood it really annoys me and kind of pisses me off. When I explained this to him he seemed to understand but he also seemed hurt and said that he doesn't believe in changing yourself in order to be more compatible to someone and just sort of seemed worried about me not liking him anymore. I don't want to change him and I'm completely in love with him, I just want him to do it less... is that too much to ask? I told him how I felt about it months ago but he still does it.

To answer your question, he just sounds immature and insecure. Someone who can't ever be serious and normal is annoying imo.
