Is that a f*#$ing worm in my chicken!?

Honestly, I gave up Cod because I found worms in a fillet when I was grilling; please don't tell me I need to give up chicken, too!?

This chicken was in my fridge for 2 days and I just pulled it out before heating it up for lunch. When I was peeling the skin off, I saw this. It was like between the meat and the skin. It was white, but then as the chicken sat out for 10 minutes while I uploaded pictures and made a topic, it turned more brown. Needless to say, I threw it out...

Hard to tell from the pics man, but having taken parasitology, many animals suffer from parasites (including us) and that's no reason to give up eating meat and many precautions can be taken. Fish parasites can not live under very cold temperatures so it's imperative that you freeze fish immediately after catching it and then thoroughly cooking when it comes time. Properly cooking any meat is important for that matter. If you did, you should be fine.

Yeah, the Cod I bought from my local grocer was frozen. I let it thaw before grilling and as the meat became more translucent, I could see all the worms near the surface. That was disgusting. At least I didn't have this: link

And food having parasites--that's why pork has to be roasted thoroughly before you eat it, why the Hebrews were commanded not to. It can have parasites, and thorough cooking is required so they're dead when you eat them.

If it is, then maybe it *is* a worm. Therefore, next time cook your own chicken! it tastes better anyway *less likely to have worms* and don't let it spoil :P!

It does not look like a worm to me and all I can do is make a best guess from what I can see in that picture. Obviously I cannot see it in person so.. yeah lol.

It does look like something from muscle or even ligament.

I would say no. That looks more like muscle fibre like aMuse said. That's how good chicken actually should come out as, if you pull small fibers off of it. Well, at least in my opinion, because then it isn't dry as a dessert.

@Update: Doesn't look like a worm to me. It appears to have many small pieces stemming off from it which few worms have. As well as it's ability to remain rigid after being cooked.

Wish I had a better picture. The pieces stemming off of it are actually chicken debris. It was smooth.

Ohh, well it's entirely possible that it was a worm. It's not uncommon for the animals we eat to be infected with parasites.

Near rotten ISN'T rotten, so what's your point? Anything could be considered "near" rotten. Just let it sit out for a couple days and then it will be rotten. Was this an attempt at injecting drama to make a point, or are you just being stupid?

Also, chickens are not parasites. The worms that dwell inside are. How is it ironic that I'd rather eat a healthy source of protein over a parasitic worm? I don't see irony in that...
