Do any other college students drink before class?

I am a senior in college, and I just find drinking before classes to be extremely helpful in coping with all the sh*t. Plus, it makes me more sociable and comfortable.

I have had a drink before class on a couple of occasions, usually if I met up with friends for lunch that day and then had class in the afternoon. But if I go out and I know I have class or a meeting or somewhere to go where I have to be alert, I try to only have one or nothing at all. But this hasn't happened in a long while. I used to know a girl who would have a drink before every class and she likened it to people who regularly smoke before class. It is NOT the same thing. Smoking, while bad for your body, does not impair your judgment like alcohol does. It's not good if you need alcohol to cope with things.

Also, class is not for socializing, it's for learning. That's what you're paying for. Socializing is when you meet up with friends outside of class and study time on a Friday night or something.

I will say though, that I have written many an essay the night before or a couple of nights before it was due with a cheap bottle of wine at the desk. I did very well on those papers, but I really discourage alcohol while doing any kind of school work.

Do you drink tea or coffee? I really suggest replacing the drink with one of those, even if you only start doing this once per week.

I think that's how drinking problems start. Seriously, if you need alcohol to cope with something, you have a problem, go seek professional help.

To answer your question, no I don't and I don't know anyone that does. Sure on some days some might come in a bit tipsy, but it's not because it helps them to deal with class but because there is something else going on like a big football game the next day. It's also a rare occurance

no, you need help because you think you can generalize someone as having problems just for drinking. 70% of the American population is classified as depressed, so who the f*** are you to judge who needs help? Drinking has been around for SOOO f***ing long and that's because it obviously has many benefits. You need professional help for generalizing and judging people like a condescending a**hole.

I'm not even gonna comment on that comment but for QA I'm not sure how serious you were bout this question, but if you need alcohol to be able to bear your classes that's a problem. There is a difference between drinking for fun or drinking because it helps you to cope with something. The first is harmless, the latter is a subsitute behavior for an other problem and until you'll solve that your drinking is likley gonna get worse

I've had a few beers at lunch on occasion and attended a class afterward, but it's not something I'd do normally. I can function normally on a couple of beers if something comes up and I want to have a few drinks with some friends or family for some random celebration, and then carry on with the rest of the day. I don't think about drinking so I can manage to go to class though. If I was in a 7 step program, I might be drinking before those classes. lol

I have friends who do it. They're in hospitality and management though and half their classes are stupidly easy and laid back. I'm a business student and probably couldn't pass if I drank before half of my classes

i did on the first two weeks as I was really nervous about not making friends and I'm more sociable after a drink

Ya I've done it before, just never overboard. I also did many different painkillers which are quite nice. The only problem I find is when I'm high I want to start doing something else and get bored with the material ..

and also, having a few beers isn't going to make you drunk it will just take the edge off. Sometimes that can be very helpful and I've known some very intelligent people who did exactly that in hard ass classes. Obviously drugs have benefits or people wouldn't do them .

Again, I don't think it 'cool' to get drunk, I never have been drunk. EVER. I do find that a small amout of liquor helps me relax. I do not condone drugs for recreational use either. Please do not get it twisted.

Probably not. There is a thing called " will power". If I would have become an alcholic I probably would have started in high school when I suffered from major depressice D/O, and hung out at parties where I was constantly offered a drink but never took one. It probably would have started when my mom died last year. No your right, it should start now when I'm a senior in college who has made something of her life. Thanks! :)

I love my parents, I don't always do what they say but they signed for the loans for my college so I show them respect for that atleast.
