What does it mean if a guy calls you "hot" behind your back?

This guy Mark would show interest in me by calling me and texting a lot, and he would ask me out but like a jerk/douche bag he would back out every time. He never complimented me to my face or anything, but he started to become distant, like barely texting and calling me, and he even told me he liked some other girl. So, anyways Mark is hanging with a couple of friends (whom I am friends with as well) and the one (Danny) told me that he said that I liked this guy Kyle and he should hook me and Kyle up, and the other friends were agreeing, but Danny said that Mark became very angry and jealous. He said "Sarah is way too hot for Kyle" "She is way too good for him" And they said he was noticeably angry and he said "He is not a good guy don't set her up with him. I will never speak to her again if they go out" He said all of this behind my back and I don't understand any of this? I thought he liked another girl and such. But anyways I never heard a compliment until now, so what does it mean when a guy says a girl is hot behind their back? Any thoughts?

I don't see what needs explained... He told someone you're hot, he clearly thinks you're hot. The fact he says you're 'too good' for Kyle means he's jealous. That deciphering isn't rocket science. Although I'm betting you think it's confusing because he will mention asking you out and then become distant... Combine him becoming distant and saying he likes another girl means he's keeping his options open. Think of it this way, he was going for you, then he was going for another girl and now he's back to you again... He is keeping options open, he is essentially acting like a player. Or as some other guys would say 'he's being wise'. I personally think it's stupid, but whatever people will still do it.

Sometime alone, just talk to him, and clear things out. For good or bad. I think he likes you. And that he stopped talking on social media can be a great question too. I'm sure you would get fascinating answers. And that would be great.
