1. You Extend Your Childhood Into Adulthood

You don't want to date or be introduced to people of the opposite sex. You don't want to think about a traditional adult life as a parent. Nope, you just want to extend your childhood into adulthood. So, even though you are biologically a sexually mature adult of the species, you prefer to be a child at heart. You prefer to spend time with little kids at the library or in a religious building, because being with kids makes you feel younger than you really are. Your ideal job would be a babysitter, a nanny, a pediatric nurse, a pediatrician, a playground monitor, an elementary school teacher, an early childhood educator, etc. These jobs are traditionally female-dominated, but that is changing. More and more men are pursuing these female-dominated, comfy, skilled-labor jobs, so if you are a man, don't be ashamed of choosing that as your profession!

2. No One Will Ever Know Your Weaknesses

Being married probably sucks. You have heard of all the stories and problems that go on in troubled marriages. Being single means you don't have to deal with all that stress in your life, which may influence negatively your work performance. The last thing you want is to have someone that you supposedly love at home whining and complaining about what you did and using your weaknesses to win every argument.

3. Home Is Always Personal Time

Being married may mean coming home to your spouse every night (if your spouse is a stay-at-home parent) or with your spouse every night (if your spouse has a job outside the home). Either way, having the spouse there means you don't have your own personal time. If you are single, your entire home life is your own personal time, where you can just do whatever you want (provided that whatever you do is legal and safe). You may be a couch potato and watch TV while snacking on a can of black beans and fresh baby spinach, and no one will come to you and change the channel or steal your food.

4. Your Family Is Just Your Ancestors And Side Branches

Being single/unmarried means that you are not very likely to have any descendants, unless you happen to have a child out of wedlock and have to provide for the child with your child's other parent. Assuming that you are single, unmarried, and childless, your family members are just your living ancestors (parents and grandparents) and side branches of the family tree (aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, brothers, and nieces/nephews). This allows you to have resources to shower upon your younger relatives, taking care of them temporarily or even adopting them as your godchildren.

5. You Have The Bed All To Yourself

Being single means you have the bed all to yourself. Yep, you can buy a big, comfy king-sized bed just for you, allowing you to extend your extremities fully.

Single life all the way for me, baby, at least at this point. I can do whatever I want with my life, because I only have to answer to myself. And I don't mean that in a shallow way - I am returning to college for an Accounting degree, and were I in a serious relationship, there's no guarantee that would happen because of the other half wanting to settle down, have kids, etc. Being single, I can take things in the direction I want at my preferred pace. It lets me focus on what I need to do in this moment for my own future.

These are not reasons they are circumstantial side-effects.

1. This is complete garbage. I mean complete and utter garbage. It isn't even defensible how wrong this is. Fleeing from responsibility isn't "extending childhood" it's fleeing from responsibility. Being a child at heart has nothing to do with how many children you have or your relationship status. Most of the professions you mentioned are held, quite successfully, by the fully married and those who volunteer best with children oft have their own.

2. No one will ever know your strengths either to show you how to be all you can be. You get to endure your weak and decrepit piteous existence all by yourself suffering your biases day by day. This is an excuse to avoid relying on others not sound reasoning to avoid them and it isn't even true; the same people who avoid "weaknesses" in spouses suffer them in friends and family. Hermetic lifestyles are just not good for most humans.

3. Again this is a terrible excuse. People in relationships binge watch Supernatural all the time. You want to sit on your couch and watch Netflix? Go ahead. Generally speaking what actually happens is your partner will go off and do their own thing while you do yours because they need personal space too. I have no idea where your idealization of someone being in your face all the time comes from but in long-term relationships it's not realistic.

4. Read as: "You don't spend money on a family of your own so you can spend money on other people's families instead." Great logic. Really, excellent logic there. I know a few barren women who would strangle you for even...

5. You can do this no matter your situation. People often WANT to sleep together but I've no idea where you think it is a requirement. Actually a lot of couples do sleep separately.

I guess you interpreted the Take as "reasons for being single", as if I were promoting singleness. In reality, I was just listing justifications for an opinion. The opinion was that "Being single is the best". One could ask why. Then, I listed statements that highlighted the benefits of being single. Granted, there are drawbacks of being single, but drawbacks are not the point of the Take.

By the way, you likely used the wrong word in Point 2. The adjectival form of *hermit* is eremitic or hermitic. It's not *hermetic*, as in *hermetic seal*.

You have better control over your finances. With the way the divorce court system is either party can potentially get screwed although there are pre-nuptial agreements.

I really don't care about Number 4, especially when it comes to passing on genes to continuing a family name or generation because it's a false sense of security that would turn out just fine or work. The genetics system is terrible and it's just the way it is when we procreate, you can pass on bad genes to your children and not have control of it and then they will suffer for it. You can't even pick the safest and the best genes that you and your partner posses to ensure that your child won't get screwed if something goes wrong.

Taking care of the children of your other family members are still fine if you feel you need that to help you cope and provide you some comfort. That's how I always view it, people have them, but deep down, it's just another way to help them cope with the way this kind of world and reality really is. Otherwise, if we don't even feel loneliness at all, or had ever felt loneliness in the very first place, we probably would have never ever bothered to seek any companion, friend, partner or significant other. And yet, it's all very temporary, people can change their mind, leave, abandon you unexpectedly, or simply because of an unexpected tragedy or accident and then just like that, they're gone from your life, forever.

I know I can't agree to having kids at all anymore after I look so deep into our world and reality and look at what kind of a world and reality we live in, I find it to be really bleak and know for certain that it would be terrible to bring someone here into this world when I cannot get their clear consent in the first place, and second, the moment they are brought into existence into this kind of a world they will become exposed to all forms of harm, pain, and suffering over the course of their lifetime and then inevitably die.

Being single doesn't suck. If you can't be happy being single then how you can be happy with someone else? You need to be mature and love yourself but you also need to be happy with yourself.

I've dated (the wrong) people but I have yet to be in a relationship. There was a time I hated being single but it's just not my time yet and I'm not going to be sad about it.

Those are all really sad reasons. You need go grow up at some point and face life. Just because you have adult responsibilities, doesn't mean you have to be an old fogy. Sharing your life with someone enhances your life, it doesn't hinder it. If you find the right partner, their strengths offset your weaknesses. And being alone isn't fun, it gets lonely. If you need more room, buy a king size bed. I have one and we always had plenty of room.

Sorry, taking care of someone else's children is not your job. Even if something happens to the parents of those children, it is not the same as having and raising children of your own. You cannot possibly fathom the responsibility and amazing joy that comes from having children unless you have them. To know you would do absolutely anything for them.

Of course, it brings joy. The parent becomes extremely protective of its own offspring, because the offspring has the same blood. Well, 50/50 anyways. That doesn't erase the fact that it's more selfish to look after one's own progeny than the progeny of another bloodline. Because raising the offspring of another is counter-intuitive and unnatural, it is a sign of altruism.

People never realize that you have the freedom to be what ever you want to be. If you want the best singel in the universe so be it, if you want to be worlds greatest mom/dad so be it. But the second... when you're young, you're afraid of people learning your weaknesses. When you get older, not only are you more in tune with your weaknesses, you also like the idea of having someone else to mitigate your flaws. Someone whose strengths nicely counter your weaknesses or better yet, someone who simply makes your weaknesses seem less important, or perhaps they just disappear entirely. :)

However, considering everything that has happened so far in life, I have given up on the notion that I will be part of a couple. People tell me I am too young to think that way. We're already at risk of dying out from the possibilities of climate change and as well as nuclear annihilation. But I think trans-humanism would be what will save us from those various possibilities of risk, including the decline of relationships, dating, and births, as I think transhumanism from advanced technology developments could save us from dependency on traditional and natural methods of procreation and reproduction since it''s becoming less efficient and not as consistent anymore.

Imagine if we were able to extend and delay death through technological developments. That is assuming it ever occurs the way I would expect it to occur, if not it could also mean that the worst possibility for everyone, such as our own technology goes wrong and cause catastrophic consequences or maybe somehow it becomes possible for it to turn on us.

I think we all lie to ourselves. Happiness and fulfillment comes from within ourselves, not from the other person. If we aren't fully content with ourselves and have shit tons of insecurities then we need to work on them greatly before ever getting into any relationship. The other person we seek to be in a relationship with, they cannot complete us, that part is entirely on us. They can provide us companionship and support us in certain times of need, but if we aren't happy with ourselves, the relationship can't change or fix us, the other person cannot change or fix us, that's entirely on us to choose to change. Relationships are not meant to be easy and totally void of conflict, another misconception many people have and then they don't realize it until it hits them and when they don't work together and compromise then their relationship can fail and it can and will end.

I live with my girlfriend. I love her, and most of these things on here seem to be like negatives to me. It means a lot to me to have someone who I know cares about me and I can talk to my feelings freely with. I love coming home to see my girlfriend. I love spending every day with her.
