I am finding more and more people of the current generation who think that monogamy is archaic. I also have a friend who thinks that eventually marriage will become obsolete...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and the same stuff was written about 100 years ago, too.
@HereIbe Nothing lasts forever.
And, yet, the demise of marriage has been predicted for millenia (that's "thousands of years" for stupid people).
@HereIbe Soooo... are you suggesting that I am "stupid"? Only the government has the power to make marriage legal, not religious institutions. That means that the possibility of change is always present. There could come a time when religious institutions will continue the practice, but they won't be legally recognized. The situation would be like same sex commitment ceremonies before the Supreme Court decided that same sex marriage is now legal.
Depends, did you not know what "millenia" means?
People have STILL been predicting the end of marriage for THOUSANDS OF YEARS! Government could make slavery legal again, too. Does that mean it WILL happen?
@HereIbe Anything can be made legal or illegal. Laws change all of the time. It depends on the trends of the times. I am referring to marriage as a legal institution. You seem to be hung up on marriage as a cultural/religious phenomenon. Actually, it's spelled "millennia," not "millenia"... for "stupid people." Not sure what "millenia" means. I have always known that "millennia" means a period of a thousand years.
Now, how does that PROVE that marriage WILL disappear. Go ahead, illustrate the PROOF. Your'e just wanking in public.
@HereIbe Again, let me try to make this clearer. I am referring to marriage as a legal institution, not as a cultural/religious institution. The uproar in the legal world over prenuptial agreements and child custody issues are causing fissures in the LEGAL institution. Those who are religious devotees and are hung up on tradition will continue, but that doesn't mean that the LEGAL institution will remain forever. A lot of this is fueled by changing financial situations and gender roles. Marriage has been about property rights, power and security. In the US, the nuclear family is fading. Here is an article addressing the trend: www.salon.com/.../
I strongly agree that human are polygamy from inside
Lol FUCK MARRIAGE! I get more ass than a toilet seat
A wild MGTOW has been spotted
This is a biological fact, no need to justify it. Only people blind from emotions are going to say this is not true, but fuck them, a fact is a fact
Our brains are wired for serial monogamy. Humans are neither polygamous or monogamous by nature. We are not snakes or penguins.
You just haven't found the right person yet.
Humans are many things inside but we cannot do them in order to be civilized on the outside
And how is polygamy, one of the most widely practiced institutions, uncivilized?
Try to marry multiple women here today in America and see if people will approve of you
In some places, they approve quite a bit. you'll have to do better than that, @oxoxo_ ; that an ad populum error.
Okay smartass. Name one state, city, or county where that is legal, let alone accepted. I'll wait.
Read this article for just a small glimpse. www.theatlantic.com/.../
Small glimpse of what? I read the entire thing. Didn't find one American state, city or county where polygamy is legal. Where is it legal here smartass?
Ahh... reading for comprehension isn't your thing; I get it. I never said it was legal. I said it was approved. I see now why you were confused. And the sole of civilization is not found in the US...
Idc about where else or when else it has been "approved". I said here in OUR society it's not civil to have a polygamy neither is it legal and you claimed I was wrong. So show me how right you are.
Where in our society is this nonsense accepted or legal?
IDC..." Then there's no point in discussing it with you; YOU are not civilized. Thank you; you demonstrate my point.
FOH!
I disagree
possibly, but we are able to control ourselves.
You can starve yourself to death, too, by using control. That doesn't mean it's a good idea, or natural.
@taleswapper We can survive with monogamy, we can't survive without eating. Poor analogy.
We can survive with polyamory, too. So far, you haven't demonstrated how monogamy is superior to either it or chastity.
@taleswapper polygamy doesn't work in a modern society, because there's about a 50/50 split in our population. If only a few men had all the women, populations would decline and violence would spike.
Ah, parochialism rears it's head. It DOES work, just not where you are. I get it. What you seem to miss is that not everyone conforms to your views. "If only a few men had all the women, populations would decline and violence would spike." But if half the men were successful in getting two wives, while the other half had none, it wouldn't be "a few men". And given the higher mortality rate of men in general, you could go to two for half, and STILL have enough women willing to either share themselves with the rest of the men, or be a sufficient draw to keep down your feared uprising. In fact, there are places on the globe where women marry ALL the men in the family (usually brothers), and then practice polyandry. It's been ongoing for thousands of years, just as polygyny has in other places. Sorry, but your assertion that it can't work is demonstrably false.
@taleswapper You also make assumptions that women would WANT to be in this type of relationship. It's unpopular and not commonly practiced in the modern world for a reason.
I don't assume it. I KNOW some women do, because I have met them. I know some guys do, because I am one. YOU are the one making an assumption; that no one would want this of their own free will; that all such relationships must therefore be coercive.
@taleswapper but on a large scale, no. The data supports my claim.
Does the fact that most people are right handed mean that left-handedness is ALSO incompatible with civilization? no, of course not. The statistical data doesn't support your claim because your claim is binary.
You raise an interesting point.
Interesting perspective on it
Can’t argue with this
I guess this doesn't apply to Mormons or Muslims.
wrongggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
i am poly what ever even on the outside.
FAAAAALSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I agree with what Dencent guy said
I disagree. Polyamory is more like it.
