What to call a guy if he doesn't like pet names?

I called my boyfriend 'bub' once and he instantaneously asked me not to call him that and said that he doesn't like pet names.

He has a nickname for me which is 'Pussycat' and he calls me his 'beautiful girl' etc a lot, but since he told me that, when it comes to me calling him something back I don't know what to say.

In an example he could say "goodnight my beautiful girl" and I could say something like 'good night handsome', but I can't say that all the time.

Guys, I need some help. For those of you that don't like being called 'pet names' what DO you like being called? Even if it's nick-names, describing names or not so cheesy pet names you can handle?

Honestly the thing that makes me feel the most loved is when I'm told "goodnight (my real name)."

Personally I feel pet names are fun in public because it kind of makes your relationship less serious when you're around others, but when your name is used I can't think of a more loving way than just addressing each other by name.

Obviously I call him his name. I thought that would have been obvious. I mean other names. He's an older man and without saying it I know he's not the type of man to like 'babe' 'baby' etc. He is quite old fashioned.

Yeah, probably. It's just where he calls me beautiful and says things like "my love" etc. I don't want to copy what he's saying, but I don't want it to be one-sided that's all. Maybe I'm just over-thinking it a bit...
