My girlfriend stole my favorite hoodie, why would she steal from me?

Question

So I have this hoodie that I love. It is my college hoodie and it is made out of the softest material. I've broken it in just right and it fits snug as a bug on me. 

One day, I noticed that it went missing and I freaked the fuck out. I looked through all my drawers and I ripped my bedroom apart from floor to ceiling. It was lost for good.

About a month later, I go to my girlfriends house and we were going to cuddle for a bit and watch a movie. What does she come out with? My hoodie!!! I didn't get mad at her but I told her I wanted to have it back. She refuses to give it back to me. I have never seen her so adamant about anything this much in our relationship

Why would she steal from me? Why doesn't she want to give my hoodie back?

The rule with girlfriends is... if you want to keep it, don't let us wear it. You will NEVER get it back. If it graces our bodies it is now ours.

I have about 12 of my boyfriend's hoodies, 2 pairs of his shorts, and 5 t-shirts. He will never be getting them back (even though they don't fit me, like, at ALL lol) because they smell like him, they remind me of him, and they're comfortable. It's awesome for me, who wears a size XS to curl up in an XL extra tall sweatshirt and watch a movie or read a book :p

He learned this eventually... and now I only ever get his childhood sweatshirts that he doesn't fit in anymore... but that are still too big lol

So yeah. Lesson here is... don't let your girlfriend wear what you want to keep because once she wears it, it is no longer yours.

A couple of reasons.
1. It probably smells like you and it drives her wild.
2. TV and movies have made the "girl wears her boyfriend's overlarge shirt/hoodie" thing hot.
3. She probably thinks you think it's cute.
4. Possession. She owns your hoodie, she owns you, you own her.
5. She probably likes it as much as you do if it's as soft and snuggie as you say.

Just tell her how much you love it. Tell her you wear it all the time and it's your favorite and she can wear it when she's around, but you want to keep it at your place.

LOL... you are funny!! I really don't think she meant to "steal" your hoodie. What I do think is she likes to wear it coz it's comfortable and it reminds her of YOU!! This is a good thing and indicates that you and her have a good relationship considering you didn't get mad. Plus it's kind of cute when a girl wears a guys hoodie coz it's bigger on her... lol I'd say let her keep it and enjoy her in it... Kind of like in high school when a guy lets a girl wear his letter jacket. Maybe you can get another one and then you guys can match :)

A girlfriend did this to me once. I mean, she told me that she was taking my favorite hoodie and it was hers now. I think it's a combination of claiming ownership, and having something around to remind her of you.

She gave it back when she broke up with me two and a half years later.

i find it weird.. did it not cross her mind that you might need it? i find it also kinda rude, it's automatic that if one gets something, s/he should ask permission. well there are exceptions but not in your case imo. ask her again to return it and tell her that you really like that hoodie, she would most likely return it cause she'd feel sorry for you.
