My boyfriend punched me in the ass so hard, but was it intentional?

Okay I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this... earlier today, my boyfriend was saying something stupid, and I retorted back in my own sassy way (as per usual). All of a sudden, when I turned around to look at my phone, he yells, "butt punch!" And hits me in my left ass cheek HARD. I mean, it knocked me off my feet and my phone flew and I cried in pain, that's how hard he hit me. My natural instinct I guess was to get away from him, but we were downstairs, and I, honest to god, could not get up. My left hip hurts so bad now that I can't even sleep. He tried apologizing, but I don't even know if I should accept his apology. He really hurt me... and let's just say it wouldn't be the first time he's, "accidentally used too much strength." Either he just the freaking hulk, he's immature (he's 21), or he's intentionally hurting me. We've been together five years, and these "accidents" have just started this year. Help?

He's punched me in the ribs before, but we were playing around, it was dark and he was aiming for my thigh. You're right... I think he is just an idiot.

Sorry, but the guy's a moron. Do you even expect a serious reply to this? Anyone who would even yell something like that (never mind, actually follow through), most have the emotional and mental maturity of a 13 year old boy. And in fairness, that's being unfair to the 13 year old.

A punch like that is the end or enough. A line was crossed. Put an end to it. If it was another body part every one would see it. What if it was your face, chest, or side? He hit your ass know you would not show your ass.

No, that's how my abuse started until one day it was more than just one "playful" punch.

My advice: you walk out the door and never look back. The first step is the hardest, after that it gets easier and easier.

I agree with you sort of but their situation is a bit different them being together for 5 years. It would be pretty hard I assume to just walk away when the situation just started happening. Its best for those two to stop it right now and promise it never happens again. If another physical altercation happens again then leave at that point.

I was with my boyfriend for 5 years as well, got engaged at year 4. Were supposed to get married 8 months after this happened. It started approximately at 3 1/2 years into our relationship. It can start at any time. Best thing to do is cut your losses. You really don't change this type of behavior. Ask any domestic abuse counselor.

I think he's just an idiot. I mean if he'll do that to you whilst playing around... how is he when he's angry? If he's never hit you, good, but I feel like that's a warning sign...

If this was the only case then I would say he was messing around, and accidentally hurt you. I don't know what you meant by these "accidents". Have there been others?
