My boyfriend would rather be on his xbox than be with me. why?

my boyfriend plays xbox from the time he wakes up from the time he goes to sleep. He wakes up at like 3 in the afternoon and goes to bed around 4 the next morning. and all he does is play xbox! he won't go to bed with me sometimes and even when he does he is so irritable. and he will hang out with me but he wants to have sex all the time, its never us going on a date somewhere or just hanging out. we fight almost everyday about him caring about his xbox more than us. and he gets mad at me-ready for this?- for liking one direction. and he will apologize for getting so mad and blames his addiction. I just dont understand why he would rather be on his xbox more than being with his girlfriend. He always makes me empty promises because he knows how i feel so he will say we will go on a date but he never takes me cus when i ask he says something like "babe i wanna play this game first we will go in a few hours" but a few hours always turn into no hours and we dont go. How can i get him to understand that i just want him to care more and how can i get him to get off easier?

He's an addict. Really truly an addict. Think of it from that point of view. Don't think of it like he has a choice, like he chooses to play xbox rather than be with you. Think of it like he's a total addict. It's controlling him instead of him controlling it.

He probably recognized that even if he doesn't admit it, even to himself. Those game will literally steal his life away. They can steal his life, his education, his career, his girlfriend, everything.

I don't have an answer except to say you should talk to him about his addiction. I would not approach it from your own point of view and how much time he spends with you. It should be about him and his addiction. Like any other type of addict, he will change when he's ready, which may not ever happen.
