Why do women expect guys to do everything in the relationship?

Most women expect (yes, expect) a guy to do everything: pay for the majority of things, take her on romantic dates, give her cute gifts, etc. Generally, in return the guy gets sex. That's ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, men love making their SO happy.. But women expect these things (and more) but don't want to have to do any of them themselves. Why is it always the guy who has to take you out on a date? Why can't the woman surprise the man with a nice date. From my personal experience, and that of my friends, this is always the case. Women want to be woo'd but aren't prepared to woo. Why is this?

Most likely because those are the traditional gender roles created by patriarchal society. To me kudos on gals for getting some benefit from it.

Also possibly to balance out:
- his expectation of having sex even when she doesn't desire it
- his uncertainty/unknowing of where the relationship is leading when she has a clear hope
- the high likelihood that if the relationship got to marriage she'd be doing all/most of the household and childcare duties while working.

A gal pal of mine says guys do everything in relationships and women do everything in marriage. So far it seems to hold some truth.

My partner and I share the costs of everything (either by splitting, or taking turns). I plan nice dates and buy him cute gifts (probably more often than he does these things for me).

He doesn't "get sex" from me by doing nice things for me. We don't treat sex as a transaction---we have sex with each other because we both want and enjoy it.

From my personal experience and that of my friends, what you describe is not always the case. I mean, I imagine that there are some women like that out there, but my female friends pay for dates, I hear them talking about romantic dates and getaways they're planning for their boyfriends/husbands, gifts they've bought them, etc.

Everyone is diffrent. You can't categorize the girls you've dated as all woman as a whole. I myself hate when guys always feel like they have to pay for me so I pay for myself (when they let me ) . As for dates , what girls dont want to feel special? But that doesn't have to mean a 5 star restraunt. It can be little things like going to the park or hiking. Some people are more superficial then others unfortunately.

You have it wrong.

Men should do all of those things because he cherishes her above all else in this world. Women who expect it are ingrates, and will likely never be truly happy.

This world is so backwards that women don't want to be feminine, submissive, or subject to their men any more, and men do not have the slightest inkling on how to truly love a woman, nor do they care.
