She doesn't mind me being barefoot, or being barefoot while wearing shorts. She says she doesn't like to see men being barefoot while wearing trousers or jeans.

I'm not sure what the difference is from wearing shorts to wearing pants - it's still your feet on the same floor. Maybe she just considers shorts is an article of clothing meant for summertime that is expected to show less from the knees down, and how she was raised, if you wear pants, you should be wearing socks.
