It's funny because I was in a long distance relationship for 2 and a half years. We lived around 3 hours away from each other and managed to make it work really easily. We moved in with each other and that's when things went downhill. Mostly because I moved in with him and he was still living with his Mother, her boyfriend and his brother (at first it was just him and his brother but then his Mum moved back in... Urgh).. It caused a lot of friction and eventually we realized things were just getting too toxic. It ended after 3 years together and we were only living together for 6 months, the rest of the time we were long distance and only seeing each other every other weekend or for long periods of time over summer (I was a student).

Now I'm in another long distance relationship and it's honestly going really well. I believe it is lack of communication that ended my last relationship and I've worked on that and am still working on that in my new relationship.

Depends on the reason for silence. But mostly agree to an extent. Some people like me are naturally quiet. But it's neither agreeable nor disagreeable because it depends on the type of relationship the couple has. Not just if it's LDR or even regular relationships. It's to do to them deliberately avoiding each other. Avoiding the situation and the selfishness of it just to 'protect their own feelings' is what really cause miscommunication and the breakdown of a relationship if it's marriage. With added premarital sex clouding the sound judgement of a person and with Cohabitation being very unhealthy and it stunts the growth of the relationship the way it needs to be. Especially when they claim they want marriage. Relationships are about change and elevation, not stagnation.

I think distance and silence break up people. I don't think, in an LDR, that simply communicating with each other often can guarantee that it'll work out. At some point there can be a longing for physical affection and intimacy of a kind that can't be provided over distance.

For relationships between couples seeing each other in person very frequently (ex: living together), then yes, I agree -- prolonged silence is probably one of the worst ways to kill that relationship.

For LDRs I think it's effective to communicate regularly but also think it's essential to try to schedule to see each other periodically if possible. Absence makes the heart grow fonder but too much makes it wander.

Depends on how far the trip is. I'll drive for 8 hours to cuddle and crash when I have 2 consecutive days off, and if the relationship has been normal but temporarily made LDR I'm game.. for maybe a year or two, before I grow weary.

I think rushing into a marriage is the leading cause of divorce. We humans rushed into marriage 300 years ago because we died at 30 and looked 80 at 25. Now we live to our 60s-80s and stay (with effort) decent up into our early 40s. Why rush?

Just studies shows that 1-2 years is enough to know the person. However, they found out Long Term relationship end in divorce like Angelina and Brad. Time is not guarantee.

That is no lie. And knowing is only half the battle (Hah). I'd move in with a girl, share bills, see how it goes as if we were married before spending the money on the wedding, only to spend more on the divorce. Life is long as hell, and I'm not sprinting it. But that's just me.

After two long distance relationships, I agree 100%. Full and frequent communication can get you through pretty much anything. But if you don't talk frequently and share your feelings, things can unravel quickly.

I think both silence and distance separate. If you can't actually meet up with one another in person at least once a week or 2 weeks, there's a disconnect that will be very tough to overcome. (Specifically talking about ldr)
