Yes, I've seen it before on more than one occasion. I would say that perhaps the difference is that older people are often more discrete in general, not only about their sex lives but about a lot of personal things. Younger people tend to be more bold.

I work in the jewellery industry, I see them often but they just get mistaken for good friends. It's hard to imagine older woman as lesbians.
