Difference between making love, having sex, and fucking?

So I know the difference between the three of these, but I am wondering if they have a different meaning for men. This guy and I have been hanging out a lot and we have made out quite intensely , but nothing more. well Friday night he said that he was imagining making love to me. I am honestly a little shocked by the words because I didn't think you used that term unless you love someone and although i know this guy and I genuinely care for and respect each other, I don't love him by any means and I don't think he loves me either. Would any of you men or even women use the term "making love" to describe sex with someone you didn't love?

having sex=relieving our sexual urges with a trusted person
fucking=doesn't matter who the person is, we just want to fuck
