Pro’s: steady income
Class A uniforms are classy
Military balls
The ability and knowledge to protect you
They know CPR
They can carry your stuff easy
If married: good insurance
Access to the PX and commissary
Cheating is a punishable offense
Free POA’s and other legal/tax help
They know how to make the bed, clean, and launder.
Cons: moving a lot
Difficult to find a job each time you move
Deployment with long stents of no contact
If they’re a NCO, always putting his unit before his family
Possibility of returning with PTSD
NCOs are used to yelling at troop, so they may yell at you rather than have a conversation
depending on their job, can have increased risk of miscarriages or special needs kids
Highest rate of murder-suicide
Highest rate of divorce second only to families with special needs kids
Dangerous job, make sure you’re prepared to take care of someone if you want to get married. Amputations, dysfigurements, Traumatic Brain Injury, ED for various reasons...
If you break up or get a divorce, be prepared to be villainized, regardless of the reasons. People will still tell you it’s your fault even if you left due to abuse.
I’ve dated 2 former NAVY and my first marriage was active duty ARMY.05 Reply- +1 y
Relevance is a case by case scenario. The cons majority are listing is more a of an individuals poor choices rather Than being because of them being in the military.

@OpinionnotHate that’s why I listed my experience with military men. Didn’t say all, said possibilities or gave statistics

The 2 comments on NCOs and the last con. However, I see many women ostracized over ending a relationship with a military guy. They didn’t try hard enough, they’re too whiny, for better or worse no matter what. If you don’t believe it, look up Battling Bare. moving, ptsd, etc are all fact; not opinions. Some units have a large group of special needs kids born into it. So they study what kind of effects chemicals have on the sperm.

theyre manly men and thats super attractive. you'll never have to worry about feeling safe around them.
Cons:
the whole idea is romanticized. Its no picnic they hve to be gone for long periods of time and its an emotionally and physically draining career not just for them but for the relationship and they need a girl who they can relate to even when theyre "messed up" and most girls aren't that girl.06 Reply- +1 y
What do you mean by messed up
- +1 y
Just when they’re dealing with the aftermath of everything they go through whether it’s physical, emotional, or psychological.
- +1 y
Ohh... yeah women talk about wanting a man to "open up" but the ugly truth is they're just repulsed by it. They end up pushing you away over it.
- +1 y
That’s why I said most girls don’t have the capacity to be able to actually support and sustain a guy in that line of work whether it’s the military or a police officer
- +1 y
At least you can see that

@redrocket68 my dad was a SWAT officer my whole childhood and even though its different its still like fighting a hiden war in your own territory. It made family life different for sure. He was never home and i never knew if when he left the house if he would make it back
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWhy are you asking?
I am married to a soldier, been together almost 9 years.

Opinion Owner+1 yCurious of your intentions, are you asking for you or a friend? Are you asking because you are dating someone in the military?
I don't know what the cons are because my military ex was all pros
He was protective, intelligent, strong, affectionate, caring, determined, etc.
Really I think he's the perfect man. I don't think every military man is like him though.11 Reply- +1 y

+1 yAlmost all of the cons people are listing is based on a person piss poor choices NOT relevant to them being in the military. So everyone saying military guys are likely to cheat are full of shit because being in the service has no pull on ones more compass or dictation on making a guy more likely to cheat if he's in the service.

+1 yWhich country's military are we talking about?
A lot of girlfriends have a hard time dealing with the deployments and field exercises that take place, including what feels to them like uncertainty. On the plus side, his paycheck is secure.02 Reply- +1 y
OK, I can definitely comment on that. It's usually much better to be a miitary guy's wife than his girlfriend because you will be able to live with him and other benefits. The other things I mentioned still apply. Just remember that he is US government property and they can make him work anytime and send him anywhere they want, which, as I mentioned, is very tough for girlfriends.

+1 yThey are gone all the time, months at a time, you belong to the government and your mate can get plucked away, months at a time, at the whim of the government and you'd have to move all the time at the whim of the government. You'd be in a big time LDR and the temptation to cheat with someone who was physically present will be a thing each of you will have to confront.

But he isn't very in touch with civilian life. You would be forced to move every three or so years todifferent places across the country to if you plan on long term. He would likely cheat with foreign women.05 Reply- +1 y

there are no pros from what I know, other than future financial benefits.
Military men are abusive and controlling, and are known for forcing their girlfriend or wife into having kids, as well as beating her.02 Reply- +1 y
No. They aren't... what a, load of crap.
+1 yI would say a pro is how proud of your partner for standing up for you and your country. The con... There's the chance they could be killed in action or taken prisoner, and you'll be lonely a lot

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 ySo many pros being involved with a man in uniform. Just don't drive him nuts. You wouldn't want a well trained fighting machine to beat you down because you mostly likely pushed him.
