Hear me out on this one... I'm 16 and have an Unofficially adopted sister that's 21, I know it isn't legal right now at my age, but if I wait long enough, is it OK to have a relationship beyond just brother and sister?

Among many other reasons, it would be awful if you broke up. I'm sure that would ruin your brother-sister relationship permanently and cause drama within your family. You might never want to speak to each other again.

And how do you think your parents would feel about the two of you dating? They would hate that and it would most likely bring pain to them because of this scandalous type of relationship between their two children. Even if you don't see her as a true sister, I'm sure they see her as a true daughter. So they wouldn't want you to be dating each other.

This relationship would most likely go nowhere as far as leading to marriage, so the risks far outweigh the benefits. There are very few positive things that could come out of this situation. Though you aren't blood related and it's not as bad as someone dating their biological sister, there are still so many reasons to pass on this.

Man if you are 16 you have to trust me on this and that is, you just aren't ready mentally and emotionally to have a relationship. The fact you want a relationship with her shows.
You have been raised with her. You are family.

In my opinion you should process your feelings and find out why you are attracted to get. Whether it's because you feel safe around her or merely a physical attraction and a desire to look after her.

People need to go through things to be able to grow through things. You wouldn't want her to be a naive 30year old unsure about how the world is.
You should put yourself first for a few years and work on you, after you have put in the time on yourself and grown hopefully you'll realise you two are gonna be better as family.

1. What does unofficially adopted mean?

2. At what age did she start living with your family? There is a huge difference between a foster who has been with you since you were a toddler and a family friend who moved in a year or two ago.

3. Check you local laws. Some places do not care. Others ban marriage between step-siblings even if the parents are in their senior years when they marry.
