Why did the word simp became popular and overused?

I have problems with processing the word simp, because after many, many memes, jokes and comparisons, I came to the conclusion that everyone can be or has been one at some moment in life.
In short: falling in love, acting like an idiot, having communication issues and in the end, everything is for nothing because you didn't get a romantic relationship, you end up being rejected, in the friend zone, dumped.

Well simp is a term used to describe someone who does self deprecating and self destructive things for someone else in the pursuit of romantic gain. For example, spending your entire pay check on a girl who isn't even interested in you. As how language is, it starts small them as more people who don't know the actual meaning of a word hear about it and it starts to trend, the definition gets skewed. It's essentially a massive game of telephone. Same thing can be said about the word incel. Its pretty much lost its meaning and people will throw it at anything

Yeah, I have also heard that word. And both words, simp and incel, have become self-deprecating terms when in reality they can refer to normal attitudes and a more normal lifestyle, nowadays that there are more people afraid of serious relationships.

Girls with a profile picture get messaged every day by 1-5 simps, who put Pussy on the pedestal and these simps worship them and tell them they are the most beautiful woman on the planet and that they would kiss them. This gives girls an extremely inflated self worth beyond the planes of reality and thus these girls think they can order a perfect 11/10 boyfriend like from a menu whenever they like and that they fully deserve one.

Also, I liked your comment, because it is more specific and that being a simp is not fall in love, act like an idiot in front of your crush, being wishy washy and get rejected or friendzoned, because that's what happens to almost everyone around the world, no matter the gender, age, race, etc.

I associate simp with mostly guys that basically give money or gifts to women for simply being a woman and ask for nothing in return.

Like they know they can't sleep with her so they give her free stuff so they can get some attention.

That's basically how I'm seeing it, but yeah seems like a lot of people are using the word for just being nice to a girl. Like if you give a girl a compliment you're somehow being a simp.

Which makes no sense to me. in my opinion before you can be labeled a simp money or some sort of material goods need to be involved.

The earliest example I can think of is I knew a guy in high school. He had some candy and I asked for a piece and he said no. And said he was saving it for later or something.

Then like a minute later a girl sat next to him and asked for a piece. Without hesitation he gave her like 2, so I would definitely call this guy a simp. And just so we're clear he had a girlfriend at that time.

You hit the nail, that's what I have felt, it has become a synonym to being nice with girls. So that means that if you don't want to be a simp, you have to act like a selfish jerk, a cold bastard, and turn the girls in simps.
