Can't see when someone was last active on messenger even though they didn't turn off their active status. is that possible?

I know its a stupid thing to be bothered about but it is bothering me.
I can see when my boyfriend is currently active but when he claims to go offline, I can't see the status of when he's last active. you can usually see it, like an "active 5 mins ago" or something, but his chat doesn't say anything. he said he didn't turn his active status off. could he be lying? or is it possible this is simply a bug on the app and he's actually telling the truth?

I dont actually think he'd lie about something like this, ig I just wanna hear it from someone else that it is indeed a bug lol.

My exes started having that issue when Facebook switched to the new site format. I have not been bale to fix it since.

make sure your is on bcs if your last active status off then you couln't see him
