+1 yIt depends on the person but usually the amount of attention it’s designed to get intimidates the person being proposed to. People who do these grand proposals are just trying to draw attention to themselves and not for the benefit of the person they’re proposing to.

+1 yI don't need to announce my love on such a huge scale, I'm just fine with flaunting her around sometimes and a bit of PDA is more than enough. After all, the relationship is between me and her, not me and her and everyone around us.

+1 yNo because it would smack straight in to my PTSD etc.
Also unless you are really really sure of the other person, then they often backfire or fail.
a mate of mine booked a Eurostar trip to Paris to propose to his girlfriend, they actually had a huge petty argument at the train station before they left. While that alone did not do much , it set the scene for the weekend.
She told him no,
They married a year later, however it was more of a low key proposal 2nd time around.14 Reply- +1 y
@anon1903 to your update, yes they can be.
It’s doing something where the other person will be shit saying no or not saying they liked it - +1 y

@chrismaster69 Why PTSD?

@BlackCatBone I have an issue with large groups and a lot of noise, so this standing at a stadium would definitely trigger a negative response lol
+1 yI do. They’re sweet and they show the person really likes you. I don’t like them from someone I have no interest in myself or for some reason I can’t reciprocate (nothing worse than turning down a marriage proposal in front of a bunch of people).

My younger brother did it at a local HS basketball game. She graduated there a couple years earlier, but it was a small rural HS, so everyone knew them. He just did things like that and people loved it. But even though she was expecting something, I think she was embarrassed at the time, but did say YES.
20 ReplyI wouldn’t want my fiancé to propose to me in front of the entire world. That’s a very obnoxious
Nobody would need to do that unless they have something to prove.
And honestly people do not really care about your proposal. Of course we are supposed to act excited for you when it does happen. But honestly we don’t care.
Same for obnoxious couples who post paragraphs about how much they love each other on Facebook.
I can guarantee you, 95% of us won’t really care. Sure we act excited but it’s all an act00 Reply- 2.1K opinions shared on Relationships topic.
+1 yI wouldn't really describe that as a grand romantic gesture. As you mention, it's more of a manipulative (if you don't accept this gesture, you're an ungrateful bum) sort of demonstration.
More subtle gestures- a back rub, a noon-time snuggle, baking one's favorite pie, knitting a sweater, etc. would be a much more personal- and romantic- gesture than announcing personal info to 20,000 people who are drunk on beer anyway!10 Reply
+1 yDoing something big and grand can be fine if it's done just to make the other person feel good and doesn't put them on the spot. Feel free to pay sky writers to spell out "I love you Susan" but don't do any gesture that puts them on the spot. If you do something that makes it so they have to make an important decision while a bunch of other people watch and judge then it's manipulative because they're going to be seen as an awful person if they say no.

+1 yIt's different if it's been discussed before, but the surprise of it when you least expect it is nothing more than manipulation in a way. The pressure from the crowd looking and speaking, your lover on one knee or doing the most in front of you. Then there is you, occupied with nothing but anxiety.
10 Reply The ladies I like, are very private, quiet types, and absolutely HATE public displays, in any way!! Few have even let me kiss them, at sunset, in a very private place.
I would never propose to her, in any way that would make her nervous, or uncomfortable.
Perhaps a special dinner, her favorite, that I cooked, just for her, and her favorite wine, but just alone, well, maybe her little dog was there. . .00 ReplyMarriage proposals, yes, because the social pressure and any possible embarrassment are transferred more to the other and not ourselves. I think they can be funny or sometimes even endearing though so long as the person making the gesture carries the full social cost of it. If my wife wants to serenade me at a karaoke bar singing a song specifically to me while announcing to everyone how much she loves me, I'd think she's a goofball but also funny and lovable.
02 ReplyI used to more so. Far less now.
Because in most cases the person doing it is doing it from a place of need/lack. Few do the gesture exclusively from a place of giving the other person a good experience and not from a place of neediness.
How many guys do you know who do that when they didn't feel they had to? Nice when it happens. Because he made her feel special when it wasn't necessary00 Reply- 3.9K opinions shared on Relationships topic.
+1 yI've always wanted to be proposed to on an empty baseball field after the game. But other than that, no specific place. I’d just be happy to be proposed to

Ever watched the Game? Derwin proposed to Melanie during half time and she said she only said yes to save him the embarassment. He was piiiiisssed

Depends on the gesture. If I ask a woman to marry me in front of 60,000 fans and she rejects me, then I just got rejected and my heart broken in front of 60,000 fans.
10 Replywho doesn't?
but proposing in front of a live stadium audience is very awkward and should never be done... that is where the line is drawn.10 Reply732 opinions shared on Relationships topic. I'm not really big on them, I don't like the pressure that they put on you and how everyone is watching you.
I prefer my romantic gestures to be private and intimate20 Reply
+1 yI would love that. Maybe not so public but I'm a sucker for romantique gestures

+1 yPersonally I don’t like it. I’m more of a private person. Especially if came to a proposal I’d rather keep it simple and private at a nice restaurant. I wouldn’t say it’s manipulative but it’s more like he could’ve put more thought into it lol

+1 yI prefer smaller romantic gestures (hugs, kisses, etc.) rather than grand ones. I hate being the center of attention, so for example, having my boyfriend propose to me in public would make me very awkward.
00 ReplyI hate big public proposals unless they've discussed beforehand. It does seem kind of munipulative because the person won't want to ruin the vibes by saying no.
10 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Relationships topic. I wouldn't turn one down. But mostly i prefer that stuff been just me and them.

10 Reply 6.8K opinions shared on Relationships topic. No, that's seriously silly. And the proposer better be very very sure of the answer. There's was a video a year or so ago where a man proposes in a stadium and she declines.
00 ReplyKind gestures are always appreciated whether big or small. So it's the thought that counts and all that effort deserves a kind gesture in return.
00 Reply4.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. In context of your question do you mean to ask if a woman proposed to me in front of entire stadium will appreciate it or not?
