I don't believe in the phrase 'true love.' It makes it too mystical, magical, otherworldly.
Love has different types, levels, degrees, intensities. But loving someone, and making it last, is more of a choice than some want to admit. It's not this out-of-your-control thing that is predetermined by destiny (that's my opinion; others are free to have theirs.)
Sometimes it's a slog. Sometimes you really don't like the person; sometimes you even hate them temporarily. But knowing that you love them, or did love them with so much voracity, reminds you to not give up on them when they hurt you, disappoint you, or are annoying af. It's not 'luck' that keeps people together. It's work. Mixed with some other things you can't control. So 'true love' is just love. And just because it ended, or they disappointed or hurt or angered you, doesn't mean it was never love. I think that's the wrong attitude to have. Too many people are so bitter that they want to crush all memories of the good. But people are not all bad, "toxic." Some are mentally ill; some are nasty; some are way too selfish to be a partner. But loving someone, for however long, should be held in a special place inside oneself. Sometimes it takes more life experience, and meeting and being with more people, to realize what 'real love' is, but it's okay that it takes time to know. It makes you appreciate it, and people, more, even if one's perception of it and others changes over time.
I feel like it’s too rare to be thinking it’s real. Like me and my boyfriend are truly in love at the age of 17 and being apart from each other sucks but we deal with it. We send sparks back and forth, if he’s melting I’m melting, if I’m sad he’s sad and wanting to fix the problem. Our connection is really strong, honestly it’s probably the strongest connection I’ve had with a person. If something happened to me he would be broken and visa Versa at this point (we didn’t start off like this as it was much much lighter). It feels like we’ve known each other for way longer than what we have (been friends for 2 years and dating for 8 months strongly)
True love usually happens in high-school, maybe college if your lucky. After that your just looking for compatibility and someone you can stand to be around. Since women develop faster than men, those true love relationships don't last. In high-school, a girl will also factor in finances and future expectations in deciding on a long term relationship, whereas a male her age isn't slightly concerned with any of that. Instead young males are romantics and think love will find a way, then they will repeat this process until they are 30 and realize what women want in our society is comfort. Then males chase money.. It's literally how our society runs.
I don't know if I'd say 1 to 300 'toxic' relationships necessarily. But I think your ratio is about right. Say 'true love' vs. "something other than that" when it comes to relationships. Never thought about putting a number to it... but... yea...1 in 300 seems about right. Good times...

There is no 'True Love'.
There is 'Decent love', 'Above Average Love', but not a 'True/Perfect Love'
It sucks, but nobody is 100% compatible. There are times when they'll disagree or fight.
If true love is based upon the notion of compatibility (which we'll look at as similarity), then it would be 1/70,368,744,177,664. That's how many genetic possibilities are in the world, there is seven billion people out there, so the chance of you meeting someone who is exactly like you and is 100% compatible with you is pretty much zero. Or at least until we get 70 Trillion people on this planet, then we have a small (but way larger than before) chance to see people with 100% compatibility.
Well, in order for this to even be a thing, people need to “have their eyes open” and not The Fallen. Allow me to sing you a song that might help answer your question better.
Sick and evil bastard, forced yourself onto innocent lives. Took advantage of and exploited, your soul won’t have a good time. In the end, it is, God who will decide. Don’t let your flesh overthrow you with a bad sex drive. The gay are ultra sinners, none with faith or pride. It is disgusting and unnatural, so you will unnaturally die. Your Soul Place has been pinned. You’ll foreverrr live with siiiiiiii-IIIIIIIIIIINNNNNn. Doing all of the opposing, and blasphemous commitment. If this shit is continuous p, then Hell is where you’ll be sent.
The notebook is a fictional movie. I don’t think you can base real love off of a movie. Though there are many true love relationships out there: the vow was a movie based on one, titantic based on one. There are so many people who have been married for years. It takes time, patience and growth.
It's important to remember that those depictions in movies are a dramatization of reality. It shouldn't be conflated with real love. I believe people pass on the opportunity to find love more often then they think simply because it's not aligned with their conception of what love entails.
Very rare, even if you find your true love the probabaly just want to be friends.
You just have to compromise to nearly the breaking point and call that love.
I hate movie and TV where they just run into love cause it's so far from reality that it's disgusting.
Its not really not that rare. You dont have to be social and out going to find it either. It finds you when you aren't looking for it. Now that being said that doesn't mean you get to keep it either though. Relationships are hard. It takes a lot of work to keep one going. They say all you need is love but when money makes the world go round and is the root if all evil how can love be enough? I honestly do believe in true love. It found me and him when neither of us were looking for it. Love was the farthest thing from our minds but yet just one eye contact and we both knew. 6 years later we've started to go our separate ways. We both love each other so much it hurts to be without and it sucks our pride has gotten in the way.
So no true love isn't rare but also be aware that it doesn't always end in a happy ending. It can be even more painful the The Notebook.
This is the issue with true love people think true love is the perfection of fairytales... True love is not that sorry the only way It can be True love is if you trust, forgive, and love eachother imperfections, honesty and only then can this be true love
they are rare because people have made the choice for it to be rare. Egos are the biggest factor in why so few find it. Drop the ego, stop caring about what others think of who you're with, stop acting spoiled and entitled, you're just another number, get in line. Live your life for you first, find that special someone. Ah hell, people are so damn shallow today it's sickening.
I’ve experienced both extremes, toxic/dysfunctional on the one hand and on the other, the sort of “true love” in which the chemistry and intimacy deepens for years and does not fade, the mutual grace and kindness are profound, even in the face of stress and challenges. I think the latter is exceptionally rare. This does not mean that other love relationships are not worthwhile or healthy, or cannot evolve through time.
Human's in general tends to mess it up and make it rare due to some fixated ideas when the opportunity stares them in the face or doesn't create opportunity. usually one and the same when it comes to it.
Yeah.
Humans tends to be self-destructive, self-sabotaging.
The amusing part is they have tendency to blame others and whines ( like many female's do ) , justify why, or aren't aware of it.
I've met many of "men" that do just as much whining as females...
With that b***hiness out the way. I do completely agree with you on human beings being self-destructive and self-sabotaging. If its to good to be true then it has to be right? But isn't that just a fixated idea in itself?
@Doodle89
Not necessarily.
Sometimes does it just get right with flow.
The thing is to keep our eyes open for funny signals there are something that doesn't add up with the whole picture and what it could be that it is that way.
Absolutely.
To good to be true tends to be a fixated idea to self-sabotage or to put up limiting beliefs to make it harder for ourselves.
There are almost always thing's that doesn't add up when it is to good to be true if we really look.
The dishonest almost always mess up with something. many times with a lot and hopes we wouldn't notice due to feelings that tends to have a big impact on humans awareness. humans tends to get narrow sighted/minded when feelings kicks in.
I think it’s rare and I’m in a relationship right now. I wasn’t able to find not even one true friend but still I’m glad that I’ve found my true love without him my life would be very lonely. What a shame it is though that I have to be so shy and that my mind goes blank when i have to talk to people because I get nervous
Every longer relationship has its critical moments but something keeps most people together. In some relationship there is financial factor who keeps one partner cemented to another, but in western societies most people are financially self-sufficient.
What could it be that keeps people together?
I think it's possible for everyone to have one. However I don't think most people know what to look for. Furthermore, most people start looking for someone to love them before they can love themselves. How can you expect someone to accept you when you can't?
Men & women define & understand love very differently so to me it's like asking how often do two random streets have their street lights change at the same time. I can't tell you which street or which town tho.
It’s pretty rare. That movie does give a really good view of how it feels though. It’s well done.
Only thing it lacked was a beautiful actress
@Tstrbrainer Really? You don’t like Rachel McAdams?
I do, but I'm mostly indifferent to the younger Rachel. In that movie she looks a little dumb too, but cute nevertheless.
She looks okay in Mean Girls, but she started looking more appealing to me since Doctor Strange.
Now that she's hit 40 , I won't be able to keep my hands off her 😍
Your math seems right. 1 in 1,000 for most. 1 in 300 is pretty good, you must be a really lucky or great person.
it's not rare, whats rare is people who are like you in your immediate area.
if you relocated all the matches next to eachother, the illusion of rarity dissapears.
very rare especially with my generation everything is about fucking something.
I felt really bad reading this, a lot of comments like this from girls way too young to feel this jaded. Same with a lot of the guys. Don't give up.
Of course people go through phases where sex is first and foremost on their mind. For guys it starts around 14 but starts to settle around 25, eventually the other parts of the brain do resume activity for most people. Don't let it get you down
You'd be surprised. I spent years and years doing the casual thing, i think i get why it can be frustrating.
Ah, might be a cultural thing. A lot of people spend their late teens and 20s not really seriously dating anyone, but you'll hook up or go on casual dates or party with people and stay sexually active that way.
Run of bad luck I'd guess 😂😂 that's good though! It's hard to expect someone else to love you if you don't love yourself. It'll get better for you 😉 I'd bet on it
Thanks! Any time!
This reads like projection. Made worse by unrealistic expectation. Don't fall into this trap, bud.
Not rare at all. You can have it many times in your life. True doesn't mean just one if that's what you thought
Among adults, it's extremely rare, but we see true love every day. Just look at the mothers, and/or fathers, who would do anything to give their children the best lives possible. That's true love.
Pretty rare but not impossible. I feel bad for those who never meet.
Pretty fucking rare, as far as I'm concerned! I only found it once in my entire life and even THAT only lasted a few years!!
Try picking up the sun and holding it in your hands. Then you will have your answer.
It’s rare because so many miss the true love they are experiencing and throw it away
True love is a fairy tale and doesn't actually exist.
That’s false. Just because you’ve never seen or experienced something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Let me show you it exists. Come with me and take my hand.
Love is a set of emotions and behaviors characterized by intimacy, passion, and commitment.
That first stage of being in love, that infatuation is just chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Beyond that love is just commitment, patience, kindness, and selflessness. Love is how you chose to act towards that person.
Just because love creates chemicals in your brain, doesn’t mean it’s fake. For example, food does the same thing and that doesn’t mean food is fake. We all know food is very real.
I'm not saying love isn't real, I'm saying that it doesn't work like Hollywood portrays it. The grandiose romanization of "true love" that Hollywood portrays is a fairy tale.
We aren’t all lucky enough to experience the notebook type of love which is why I say it’s rare.
The note book is a movie... it's no more real than Cinderella, or Pride and Prejudice.
Yeah right! The notebook happens in real life.
When there’s soo many toxic relationships. It’s hard to believe when true love is genuine.
Also The Notebook is stupid
Not rare for social people young or old you need to put yourself out there at any age.. usually happens when you not expecting it. Younger people have more people in there life makes things easier.
We all have experienced true love at least by the time we are 20yo, A lot of us just have trouble having the other other person feeling the same way and keeping it that's all.
It's more common that you realize. If yours are toxic and failed it's time to look in the mirror.
Notebook is based on a novel which was inspired by a real life romance, but it have a lot of fictional elements and is not exactly justified. One guy was made a fool
One day you’ll find your summer romance and come back here professing having found true love.
Haa 😅, a summer romance at this age? That time have passed.
Your ratio of toxic to decent is probably about right , it is rare. For me true love = ferrets
It 's hard to find but once you find it it's a feeling like no other. ❤
Love is love. There is no 'true ' to it. If you love, you do. Otherwise you don't.
It's like winning a lottery ticket.
Rare. Not many women look like Rachel McAdams. And not many dudes look like Ryan Gosling. 🤣
Ryan Gosling isn’t that attractive to me. That's not the point of the movie though, its the context and pull of their emotions. Which is why it’s also bittersweet as they pass together as an older couple. It is just a movie, but a good one.
@dustybiker OK but apparently you missed the whole point of my post. The two actors and actress are not reality! The storyline isn't even reality. She wouldn't have left all that money🤣🤣🤣. But she would sneak out and f*** Godling on the side. 🤣
It's rare so if you find it cherish it 🌹
It's very hard to find out in this world
I think it's rarer than that.
Pretty rare but I’ve had it more than once
More than one true love?
@Tstrbrainer yes.
I can relate
Very rare, that it is very hard to find.
First you have to define true love.
so rare that i'll just keep dreaming lol
True love doesn't exist. The notebook is bullshit.
rare , most are conditional
True love does not exist.
Very rare. It's not a constant feeling.
It’s a love/hate. That’s where the passion lies.
In these days, it's really hard to find
Very common.
It’s %100 rare
Only a fool falls in love with a woman
Only to hot people
It is rare
Very rare.
Very rare
