What is one thing you learned? during Covid that opened up your eyes? ( relationship, friends, etc)

About 22 months ago, 75 districts went into lockdown in response to the Covid pandemic, and 2 days later, the entire country. This is how my understanding of the disease and social life has changed since. Most of things I correlate with my past working in a hospital.

We lived through a lockdown trailer by observing a day-long ‘Janata curfew’ and came out in the evening in droves to bang thalis, wishing “corona” away. It was a great awareness program.

It was on 22 March 2020, in the wake of the WHO laying down its “test test test” credo for controlling the pandemic and India was dealing with the pandemic with its own formula of “isolate isolate isolate”. The lockdown time gave us to manage to upgrade our healthcare infrastructure and also learnt to clinically manage the disease better. Both ended up making our case fatality ratio look far better than the global numbers. Many people argue that Lockdown, Night curfews, weekend lockdowns do not work to break the chain is not healthy for these reasons too. One special advantage for me and my husband was – we enjoyed lot more sex than normal days.

No substitute for masks and hand hygiene, and Jain community was using mask for centuries. Masks, hand washing, good hygiene practices and social distancing have controlled spread considerably.

Steroids work better than repurposed drugs, therapies, the biggest therapeutic hope was touted to be a repurposed drug, remdesivir, - a “wonder” drug was revised to a little over Rs 2,000 in India. There was much excitement also about plasma therapy. But after several conflicting studies, a low-cost drug dexamethasone costing just Rs. 10 for 30 tablets ensure that Covid patients do not get into a cytokine storm, is star. We have learnt what works and what does not work and that has given physicians more confidence in treating patients. An important lessons we have learnt from this is that we were unnecessarily keeping restricting ourselves, without realizing the capacity of the system, the empowered group on testing, hospital services, etc.. We should not over-centralize. More than our ability to make available beds, tests, vaccines devices etc, what is important is our ability to do a consolidated campaign to convince people.

A lot of the initial fear associated with Covid was because of the unpredictability of the outcomes. Twenty to 49 per cent of people have no symptoms, some are mildly ill for a fortnight and then have post-viral syndrome. Young people spread the most, suffer the least

Covid is a disease that can be lethal for the elderly. Our immune systems are better primed to take on unknown ones — to explain the low death rates in India.

A lot of people learned a lot of things. For me personally, I learned more about the relationship I was actively in. That ultimately we had too many differences. I learned how to communicate and deal with things after the fact.

I did lose a girlfriend or two in the last couple of years. I learned some of my friends were not good people and had to let them go. But I learned a lot about myself and my life goals.

Being honest and open with yourself and the people closest to you, in the very least, is a very important thing to always keep in mind for success and health on all levels.

Yup it is crazy how divided it has become

People who consume msm have been brainwashed to believe that it's a reliable source and that all other sources are automatically "fake news". That precludes people from using their own powers of logic and discernment. Instead of thinking, they simply let themselves be told what to think. It's like being in a cult.

I learned how much I need a real family who loves me and supports me. I realized how lucky some people are for living in a loving and safe environment.
