Should Chris Rock sue Will Smith for 200 million dollars?

Jim Carrey thinks Chris Rock should sue Will Smith for 200 million bucks because that video is now ubiquitous. What do you think?

Two made mistakes that night. It happened for a reason. Chris Rock didn't know how much Will cared about his wife, and I don't think before the event anyone really knew. I don't think we are nice enough to actors perhaps. Perhaps being nicer, and not putting people under pressure to snap is where 200 million could go.

Will had tears. He wasn't showing off or showing whos boss. And Chris Rock did an accident quickly identifying during Wills laugh jester that he made an error. It wasn't intended for either side. It just happened.

These actors go under a lot of stress. Chris Rock aswell, he has to be mindful what jokes he makes as any comedian and it just slipped that day. I don't feel Will had some overly pre-meditated desire to embarrass Chris nor Chris premeditating to harm Will.

I think what makes this worse, or harmful, is if we just keep digging it in and talking about it, and what he or he should do, and not letting it go.

That is harm. Reopening scars. This is my opinion.

Just let it go, opinion. It happened. yes.

I read that statement by Carrey. And I remember thinking "oh great another frivolous lawsuit".
If Chris decides to sue Will that's up to him. Personally I think Chris has done the right thing. As a comedian you have to accept not all jokes land... this one only did on his face lol. Right now public sentiment is Will was wrong. If Chris pushes back with a lawsuit. That may change. Chris did make a well not malicious joke in it's conception was hurtful. I'm sure if he knew Jada had alopecia he wouldn't have said it.
But 200 million? Carrey is not living in reality!

@England4eva well it appears the Academy is punishing him now. More details are emerging. Like the fact that he was asked to leave and refused. Obviously they didn't remove him with force either. But it appears the Academy is making moves to punish him for the act now.

Too little too late in my opinion. They allowed him to stay. That place was filled with A-listers, they surely had the best of the best security on tap for the biggest night of the year. But they decided will smith was too popular too remove. Would have been easy to get him removed swiftly during the commercials after the assault. Instead he got a standing ovation. Can he really sue him for that much money? He didn’t have medical bills that cost that much. I thought the worst he could do is charge him with assault but not a legal expert. I would like to see Will have consequences in other areas that don’t involve Chris Rock having to place it since I think he prob doesn’t want to deal with the hassle. I think what will did is disgusting esp with him being a father. It’s a bad example. It’s not ok to just go hit someone because they offended us and you can’t just go hit a comedian cause you don’t like his joke. I personally wouldn’t have been offended because GI Jane was gorgeous.

I’m appalled that someone can physically assault someone in-front of millions of viewers, and then cry for themselves during a speech, were he made no apology to his victim.

Will Smith should offer to do a comedy skit with Chris Rock where Chris backhands him at one point. However at the end Will Smith apologizes, Chris Rock laughs it off and all is water under the bridge.

A few years ago ex Navy Seal Texas senator Dan Crenshaw was invited on SNL where he roasted the comedian who made fun of his eye patch (it’s a combat wound). THAT was the best way to handle it. All this other crap has to stop.

My opinion is that it is none of Jim Carrey's business what happens since he wasn't involved. I haven't even seen what went on but from what I gathered from the situation Chris Rock said something out of line about Will Smith's wife and he got slapped. Did he deserve it yes, should Will Smith have done it, no. The comment should have never been made.

Chris Rock is worth $60 million dollars from his own sweat and struggle. Carey is proposing that Rock get a monster pay day at Will Smith's expense because Chris Rock dragged Will's wife, Jada, for her disability in front of the entire world. I think Rock and Smith are even and should let it go before Jada counter sues Rock for slander. The money that Carey is suggesting that Rock try for belongs to Jada, also.
