You can't. Hell, even he doesn't know beforehand. No one knows before you try a relationship if they're gonna be happy togeather. There are indicators such as common interests, values and complimentory skills and abilities but during the course of a relationship people change and so could the dynamics of your relationship. The fact that you enter into it happy with eachother doesn't mean you'll stay happy. Every relationship is a risk and every time you invest into it you suffer the risk of losing.

You can never know for sure, but there are things you can do to increase the odds of a man staying around. Don't have sex early in the relationship. If you do, the odds of him sticking around long term plummet. That's not always the case, but typically.

Be the kind of woman a man would want to marry. That's not to say you want to get married or know you want to marry a particular guy, but just having the qualities and character a man would want in a woman he could see himself marrying will definitely increase your chances of a man wanted to stay with you.

In short, don't be a "modern woman". Modern women are not suitable for marriage or long term commitment.

From a guy's perspective I would say we always know what sort of relationship we are currently in. I would imagine the same intrinisic understanding works both ways.

As for good tells? Look at what you both contribute to each other. Of course where you are in life also has a major impact.
