People tend to be too self-focused to be healthy partners, feeling entitled to receive rather than focusing on what they bring to a relationship.

People tend to either be vague and general in their communication or outright lie to get what they expect to receive. They don't want to limit their options but don't consider how they are wasting the time of the other.

Quality people are so fed up with the garbage many people dish out, they have stopped putting themselves out to be noticed, so they are hard to find.

Guys are gun-shy of being criticized or accused, so they are less likely to reach out. Even holding a door open for women can lead to a negative blast.

People are being conditioned to believe they are entitled to a bigger piece of the pie, so they don't consider how their choices impact others.

Seems like with so many options the challenge is to find someone who you click with and can build a relationship especially when both are not perfect and will make mistakes. Seems to be getting easier to bail whenever mistakes are made or when they grass looks greener.

The compare and despair mentality social media encourages has caused people to never truly value their partner in the ways that used to provide such security. The rampant plague that is modern dating apps only adds fuel to the fire of having seemingly endless potential mates waved in your face daily. The standards of what a "valuable partner" is have never been more open to interpretation so now it seems every other thing is a red flag. Emotional bonding takes time and because of the huge amount of options only a swipe away people often give up at the slightest hint of an obstacle. Furthermore, your mate value is far more than just a picture and that metric leans heavily towards the female population. I consider myself to be a moderately attractive guy and am in fairly good shape but out of hundreds of matches on Tinder I've only met up with a few and nothing of substance has ever blossomed from it. If I head out for a night on the town I have had lots of success for both short term and long term relationships yet always seem to be thwarted by my first point, the endless sea of potential mates online. As social creatures our evolutionary biology has prepared us for millions of years to read non-verbal cues and determine mate value in real time but online you just literally never know what you're dealing with and one "red flag" can send them right back to the easy swipe game of Tinder. I truly fear for this world. Great question.
