You don't you just have to trust them and hope for the best. What does it mean to really love someone anyway? I have or thought I have... then they turn out to be someone else completely once you get to know them. Or their needs and wants evolve over time and they gradually put higher expectations on everything with higher degrees of demand... while acting they aren't when that is exactly what they are doing.

Love is not for ever that is all I can say, you can fall out of love just as easily as you fell into it. So when ever anyone says they love accept that for what it is, as though they do honestly love you in that moment but if your not consistently working for that love or you take it for granted then it can be gone just like that.

I think that you will really know if he loves you based on whether or not he truly makes you a priority. There are other factors as well, obviously, but if there is no willingness to put your feelings and your well-being ahead of other people in his life then you can be pretty certain that he doesn’t really love you or at least he isn’t in love with you.
*my answer is based on my presumption that you mean how can you know if he is IN LOVE with you, and it isn’t applicable to any other kind of love such as the type we might have for a best friend.*

If your boyfriend loves you, he will treat you with respect. That means that he listens to you and cares about what's going on in your life. He notices the little things that you like and goes out of his way to give them to you. He values you as a person, and he genuinely listens to your opinions
