How can I change my last name back after divorcing help?

let’s say the husband files to divroce first , and forgets mention I want change my last name back, do I need not sign til he files new forms stating I want last name back after divorce is finished? My mom said I cannot get my last name back if he files to divorce first, so I’ll be stuck forever with that guys last name? Im so confused. Am I not able demand on my own to the court I want last name back when divroce is finished if he files to divorce first? Im filing to divorce til the 28 Monday, I cannot do it now as im paid until that day on Monday. we don’t live together but he had said he was going to file to divorce soon. So there’s chance he’ll beat me and do it first.

No matter who files for divorce, you will be given the option to choose what last name you want as your legal last name. Your attorney will confirm this and eliminate your worry. If the paperwork isn't properly done during the divorce, you can always go to court and request a name change.

There are legal aid groups that provide no- or low-cost help. Also, most attorneys will give you a free hour consult. Call around, and I'm sure you can find help. You can also call law schools in your area for advice.

Certain questions you cannot ask here on GAG, you have to find a lawyer and ask him those type of questions. I mean this is your last name that is connected to your social security, credit card etc... we are talking about here.

I think all you have to do is file proper paperwork with your local court house, but you might also want to consult a divorce lawyer.
