As an amateur genealogist, I have visited many cemeteries and read many headstones that span four centuries.

I have NEVER seen a headstone that says "Here lies OlderAndWiser. . .

his ending balance was $1,237,592.46." or

"he drove a Mercedes" or

"he was a well-respected attorney."

I HAVE seen headstones that say "Here lies OlderAndWiser. . .

beloved Husband, Son, and Father." or

a friend to all."

That is how you will be remembered.

They're only important if you plan on having them, which me and my fiance do not. Relationships also aren't just romantic, they're platonic as well. Pets, friends, parents, grandparents.
