I need advice with this guy, so we’ve been friends on and off over the years and when we first met he told his friends I was hot and he thought I’d make a great girlfriend etc. He knew I fancied him but he denied feeling anything and he moved away so now we are friends again…he is happy to talk to me/reply to my messages and I said to him it’s tricky to be just friends but he said ‘I’m happy to do whatever works best with you xx’.
Im still in the friendzone aren’t I, or maybe not? Any help would be good…especially given he sent kisses knowing how I feel.

He left the door open to you for a more "girlfriend like" response rather than a scared friendship kind of response. If you like him then you need to respond back with something flirty. He was definitely being flirty.
