Why do my friends have to share when they got engaged 5+ years ago? Is nothing private anymore? Can't you keep that to yourself and do something nice with your now husband, rather than tell social media this? Sorry, I just don't see the point? Am I missing something? I guess I just think relationship info should be kept private because, really, no one cares. What do you think?

you're missing the point. they didn't JUST get engaged. they got engaged years ago and have married years ago. re-read that.

Because they were happy and excited about the development in their relationship and the engagement affects other people, so they do actually care?

It sounds like the part you're missing is that you're operating on the assumption that relationships only affect the 2 people involved; that's not a correct assumption.
