Is it better to put up emotional walls and avoid interaction with the opposite sex to protect from a possible rejection?

Of course it is better to protect yourself from harm. Not only from rejection, which is not something that is very harmful if you know how to handle it but mostly from harm in general.

If you know that something or someone will most likely harm you, would you not protect yourself from harm? Of course you would because that is part of human nature. You don't put your hand in a fire because you know the fire and heat will harm you. So, why would you act differently in a case like the one you describe.

Only fools take risks and unlike someone else here said, there is no glory in preventing harm whenever you can.

How about making and enforcing boundaries? How about not accept being disrespected? There is an active protection for yourself. Guess it's easier to just run away.

Having up emotional walls means you have a lot of trust issues which people might not be receptive to especially when it comes to dating. You're more prone to missing out on potential loves or friendships that way.

Negative, if your mental fortitude is so low that you are unable to cope with being rejected, then you need to experience more rejection to get past it. It does not mean no longer being afraid of it, but being able to do what's needed despite it. This includes other things in life that make you uncomfortable, since that is how you grow as a person.

Having said that, it is a good idea to be careful with your emotions. Try to make a move without hesitation and put your heart into it only as you get to know the woman and notice that she is falling in love as well.

not really. better to resolve the underlying issues so you keep boundaries with the bad ones and attract better ones and as well learn to better manage relationship.
