In terms of the city itself, I have to say that while politics and politicians are not generally very popular these days, it has a lot to offer. Historical sites like the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, plus all the monuments, museumes and memorials. It is a tourist's dream and as a resident, it means that there is always lots to do.
Also - and this is important on Memorial Day - Arlington National Cemetery is not that far away. Frankly, I am not a fan of cemeteries as historical sites, but you cannot help but be moved when you see Arlington.
Beyond that, though, the city has a ton of great restaurants and neighborhoods. See also 1789 in Georgetown. Also, the nearby suburbs have a lot to offer.
In fact, I am HUGE fan of Old Town Alexandria. Historic architecture, riverfront strolls and fantastic bars and restaurants, all done up in a 1780s mode. In fact, I recommend to anyone who visits Old Town to go to Il Porto - an absolutely magnificent Italian restaurant. Then also visits Scoops, just down the street, for desert.
Suffice to say, as you can tell, I am a huge fan of the area where I live. Not that it is not without its' irritations - traffic is horrendous - but overall, for the price, it is a magnificent standard of living.
Also, if I may make a weird digression, I also love the town where I grew up in Michigan. Walled Lake, when I lived there, was the classic small town on a lake.
To be sure, it has become "suburbanized" over the decades, but it still has a certain small town charm. The shop owners remember you and treat you well. The restaurants are small - but serve excellent food with great service.
In terms of what I dislike, for the DC area it is the traffic and, honestly, what I perceive to be a sort of abruptness - almost rudeness - of a lot of people. It is a city in a hurry and it shows. Not always - to be sure, I have many friends and neighbors whom I think are really quite friendly - but the courtesies seem to be at a discount, so to speak.
As to my old home town, as I mentioned, it is "suburbanizing." In fairness, at least insofar as that means the town is thriving economically, I suppose that is a good thing.
However, I cannot help but feel nostalgia for the days when the street I lived on was a dirt road. When you would walk into the little shops and you would know everyone. When the high school sports teams - and I say this while not being much of a sports fan - were a big deal.
Times change, but you can't help but be a little wistful for the "good ole' days."
That said, both represent the two sides of my character. The big historical city with its' classic features, historic architecture and cosmopolitan make-up. The small midwestern town with friendly neighbors, beautiful sunsets over the lake and a friendliness that is hard to beat.
Would not want to have been without either of them in my life.

But I hate the state and most city governments. They are following the "woke" agenda; they are corrupt; and seem intent on running the place into the ground.00 Reply

What I love about my city: small city, most people know each other (and their business; that can be a good or bad thing). People tend to be very friendly, courteous- we still hold doors open, greet each other, even people that don't know you will strike up a random conversation, or smile and say hello to you! The food is delicious- but if you're watching your weight? Don't come down here, haha. And the cost of living is VERY low.
Cons: lack of social and dating scene. It's... nonexistent. Especially if you're young, there's honestly nothing to do around here compared to larger cities.
While the cost of living is low, the job market sucks! It's hard finding good paying jobs here. Heck, the minimum wage still around 7 dollars an hour!
The crime has gotten worse over the years- not bad, but still not as safe as it used to be when I was younger.00 Reply

Like that it’s suburban and close enough to the places I want it to be close to. More grocery store options than before. Quiet neighborhood and I have a backyard. Not too far from a big city but not too crazy in town.
Dislike the heat the closer to summer it is. The air quality could also be better because of ozone and seasonal allergies. Lots of mosquitoes; I get bitten every day. Stray animals, there’s a lot of dumping. And it’s Texas.

Nice weather, beautiful women... and horrible traffic.

I hate Traffic, the daily shootings, the sirens, the impatient people, the humidity, the selfishness, the loud music really late at night, the floods, the unpredictable weather, the heavy drug consumption, the hoods in general, the amounts of useless wealthy people, the police being lazy, racist and careless, the smell of piss in the stairwells, the graffiti etc.
I like the beautiful sunsets tho and the smell of grass in the morning10 Reply 384 opinions shared on Relationships topic. I know this city like the back of my hand... and on the back of my hand, it feels like it's getting cooked raw. I live in one of the states of hell. It isn't great :)

you love the people in nyc? Do you show it to them?
it's beautiful, trees everywhere, any direction I go is an adventure in the woods... peaceful and decent quality people.
Good food available, winter is long and too many idiots that throw trash on sides of the road.

I love how attractive the men are. (Im in a college town.) I hate how there are little to no attractions. All we have is the mall, movies, car shows, sports games and a couple of horrible tasting fast food joints/overly expensive local restaurants

It’s beautiful, the summers are amazing and I can do outdoorsy things that most people have to pay to experience whenever I want. I hate how long the winters can be, the cost of living and dating here though.

I love how lively it is. I hate how many kids there are begging or selling tissues in the hot sun and basically having to survive on the streets. I don't like how people litter with no shame.

Love the weather, and the fact that people who are considered celebrities everywhere else are just my neighbors. Hate that people believe the entire city is 3.5 miles long.
00 Reply 343 opinions shared on Relationships topic. Love - it's a metro city and it's cheap. The cost of living is low as compared to most cosmopolitan cities in my country.
