A fling is a short term relationship, meaning you really have nothing much in common with each other and you don’t really Know each other but you are both attracted to each other , and the only thing you both have in common , is the sex and then you go your separate ways because there isn’t a real connection you are both just infatuated with each other and getting off on each other and then moving on , Most married couples or committed relationships that are unhappy in their marriage or relationship , will end up having a fling with someone behind their spouses back , because the one partner is not satisfied in the marriage or relationship and feel like they are missing out on something, usually sex and passion dies down in the relationship so one partner will latch on to someone else to fulfill them , Why sex in a marriage and committed relationships is important , if sex starts to fade in a marriage or in a relationship then more than likely the marriage or relationship is going to fade as well especially if sex between the both of them was never an issue before and then it comes an issue , I have had flings with married women that I didn’t know were married until after we played twister in bed , those married women would treat me like Gold and made me feel wanted and loved having me thinking they were in it for the long haul to find out it was for the short haul , because she was still planning to go back to her husband acting like she did nothing wrong when clearly she did by cheating on her husband , Guys will do the same thing if their wife or girlfriend starts slacking in the bedroom they will find another girl that wants to fulfill him but plans on going back to his wife or girlfriend like nothing happened , So bottom line Most flings are short term relationships

Fling is thinking you are in love but just get excited over the new relationship feeling. Not willing to be reasonable or work through issues. Something like that
