This guy named James (28) and I (28) have a weird friendship. We are both shy at church and we have full blown conversations at times. Saturday I went to go float the river. As far as I know, he doesn't have a girlfriend. So Saturday, I said hi to our mutual friend Linda. Linda has a friend named Rachael. Rachael is an older adult that is pushy and really nosy. When I was talking to Linda, Rachael interrupted saying that James and her daughter were going to float the river together. So I left it at that and thought something was going on with James and Rachael's daughter. But when it came time to float the river, James backed out and didn't go. No one knew until people started asking. Afterwards, he came up to me and started talking to me about the river. But did he intentionally avoid Rachael's daughter cause of me?

I’ve never heard of floating the river but I’m guessing it’s innocent, so with that in mind I don’t see how he wouldn’t go on your behalf. If I’m just judging off what you mentioned, you two are just friends and fairly casual at that, so it only adds to my observation that there’s no meaning behind it. Usually opposites attract for this reason. Like if one of you were confident (especially you since at least you know that on your end you have a crush), then you could actually have a talk about seeing each other outside of church. You know get the ball rolling. Nothing will ever happen at this rate.
