We met at an ABBA cover night at a small club in Amsterdam. I had just swallowed beer down the wrong pipe and almost choked. She had four cats and an American 10-speed bike that she used to ride to her job as a sex worker. After laughing at me for almost choking on beer, she bummed a Marlboro red and had me buy her a drink. We discovered we had a shared love of ABBA and cats and sex. A one night stand became my posting to the U. S. Consulate in Amsterdam and our getting married.

He was the quiet one in school always looked the other way when I walked up or past him, but he often looked at me in a quite obvious way but thinking he was being sneaky.
