  2nd part: unfortunately in my experience, it doesn't work that way without fighting for it. in fact, probably opposite, they get screwed over. If that's an issue in your life, I have approaches. But in general, this world is corrupt, take Jesus offer and go to his world. but yes, it does happen and love to see merit go where it is deserved.

  Actually- and the reason I wrote that last part is because it happened to me today. I work hard, or try to. Not looking for praise or affirmations; I'm there to do my job.
  Earlier, my boss's boss came up to me, shook my head, and told me I'm doing a good job. Not only that but he, along with some others are fighting to get me a promotion/new job title to reflect my hard work. Because they see what I do.
  Keep in mind said guy is NOT my direct boss, yet he's fighting to help me because he knows I do my job.
  
  Whereas my coworker, I will call her "A," makes twice as much money as I do, has a higher title, yet does very sloppy, unprofessional work. They all know and recognize this yet they won't fire her. But they don't trust her either... she's basically just there; but not respected by her peers.
  
  I'm happy people see and notice people that do their work, because nowadays that is how good workers are ran off from jobs: not being appreciated. Just hearing a, "Keep up the good work... I appreciate what you do..." goes a long way with most people!

  that sadly, is how it works. The way to fix that, is to leave and come back. I don't like that answer, I was very dedicated, easy to manage, I got things done and great team player. I was screwed plenty. I saw people leave, come back at higher pay. If you are valued, the will take you back. you have to fight for it, or it will take so long or never. Just imagine how much $ is being left on the table.
  not telling you what to do, telling you history and how corporate america works. I worked for "good job" and got awards from the top guy, and I was screwed. The silver plated rocks they gave me was nice, but that is not compensation.
  
  The difficult people get paid more. Squeeky wheels get the grease. Nice people, get screwed. So don't be nice, be assertive. Assertive people go up, not nice people.

  haha. Never seen anything like that and I know many. But some are armed. A few, have saved others when there was a problem.
  Such people come in handy when someone goes nuts, happens in France, Norway, China, other places. double edged sword though.
