Once I working nightshift at an all-night laundry. It was foul. We'd have drunks come in and pass out. and one night I was working... and a guy came in drunk who pissed and shat all over himself while I was there. I was horrified... I went to get him to move... even had towels to clean him up and I noticed he was not breathing. I called 911 and they came and told me he had had a heart attack... BUT they were in time and I had saved his life. That was some consultation as it was still up to me to clean up his feces...
But 3 weeks later he came back into the store and thanked me for saving his life. And that was when it hit me what a REALLY GOOD THING i had done. We gave each a manly hug and i never saw him again.
I did some volunteer work over Christmas hols, one of those was this old couple who needed a hand with shopping and some basic house stuff. Both were in their 80’s heading towards 90’s. They said I reminded them of their son, who they had lost 30 or so years previously. I was fairly gutted tbh and thought it must be terrible out living your family.
Men don't get many compliments.
