How important is someone’s employment when beginning a relationship with them?

Well, it important to be with someone who is able to earn their own way and knows how to stand on their own two feet. Starting a relationship off with a deadbeat sets a tone for what one thinks is acceptable.


For example, a former friend was getting engaged but held the ring hostage till his girl had a steady job. To him, having a steady job indicated she could take care of herself if anything happened to him; that she could interact with others rather than just being a 1950s homebody; etc etc etc. Eventually they got married and it was a good thing he insisted on her working bc he ended up in a bad accident followed by a deep depression that lasted years. She needed to hold the fort down for those 5/6 years before he was fit to return to work. Now they both have standard desk jobs, the house isn’t mortgaged to the hilt anymore… and all is well.

Very important to me. There’s a lot of things you can’t accomplish as a couple when someone is stuck in their ways of making less than they should be. And that goes with someone not wanting to better themselves and being comfortable.

As long as she can pay rent I don't care cus I can't pay for it all of we live together. I don't care about materialism, social expectations of a work ethic or any of that. I just like the bills to be paid on time and for things to be reasonable around the house 🤷
