What’s the true definition of a side chick or side guy?

Is it a term made up by someone who was cheated on and needed someone else to blame other than their partner? Is it a term that doesn’t apply if your partner was never truly committed to you or if you guys aren’t/weren’t married? What makes someone a side chick/guy?

It's just the person that someone cheats with (or is getting with in a relationship where exclusivity is reasonably ambiguous). If you're not exclusive then you can't really have a side chick/guy because then that's just another person that you're getting to know/hooking up with. I think if you've been functionally exclusive with a person for a while, even if you haven't had the exclusivity discussion, then the term might be reasonable (kind of like the logic of a common law marriage), but that gets murky.

Most guys who are side guys are just out for easy casual sex, which is exactly what they get. They also lack morals and are selfish so they don't care about the relationship they are helping destroy.

Most girls who are side chicks are with a guy who is above her level, and she agreed to be a side chick hoping she will eventually be promoted to be a relationship partner. I disagree that it just pertains to sex. To me what it means is the person on the side does not have 1st dibs on the other person's time, loyalty, commitment. Some side people know 100% what's going on. Some are tricked into the situation and don't know how bad things really are.

One or both people could want more than sex or just sex. At the end of the day the cheater is lying to at least 1 person. Maybe 2.

That makes sense. I had a friend whose boyfriend had been seeing another woman and cheating on her but it was more than sex. As a friend I said the obvious “She doesn’t mean anything to him. She’s a fling.” Etc but from what she shared with me about what she had found out, the other woman was receiving the same treatment as her but just without the girlfriend title. Although she had convinced herself it was nothing more than her being a side piece. They stayed together for a little while after that but he never ended things with the other woman. She kept popping back up so eventually, they did end up breaking up. I’m not sure if he ever officially got with the other woman though. It doesn’t make the cheating part right but to some extent the other woman or other guy isn’t just a side thing they’re like your partners second girlfriend or boyfriend.

That’s an interesting yet factual take. A side chick/guy can be many things I suppose. I know a lot of people consider men and women on the said as low value, no respect for themselves or they’re often told that they have no morals but the truth is your partner sold them a dream just like they did you. The only difference is they met him/her second. That’s it lol but people find terms and use certain words for things to make themselves feels better but realistically the situation just is what it is. You can’t determine a persons character or overall values based off them choosing to be the other guy or the other woman but no one wants to hear that because so many people have been stepped out/ cheated on and it hurts. So to feel better about that hurt, you bring someone else down. I won’t even go as far to say the cheater is a bad person and only cared hairy themselves it’s just simply how dating goes. Unfortunately is so many people in the world and everyone is different. So you love/like this person for whatever reason and then you come across someone else and you like/love them for a totally different reason.
