Be Honest are you Mistrusting or are you simply setting boundaries?

I think I'm just shaped by my past when I couldn't trust people. Nowadays I set boundaries but some of my behavior is still bracing myself for bad things to come from other people. But I've realized it now and I'm changing it. I wanna be more generous and work on the mindset that I'll be around a new person for a long time and invest in the relationship where before I was always trying to minimize the damage to myself when the relationship would end.
