Why is it deemed wrong in society to feel like you’re better than someone or better than certain situations?

I don’t mean better than in “I deserve this and you don’t.” kind of way but better than in a if I see someone doing or saying a certain thing that I and most people know is wrong, unhinged, nasty, deceitful etc why can’t I feel good about not being that way? Why can’t I feel good about not ever experiencing certain things, putting myself in certain situations or leaving certain situations because of me viewing myself as more worthy and higher than said situation? I think people are too quick to misjudge confidence as arrogant or cocky.

Society loves to promote self love and self worth but when you express it it’s always”No one is better than anyone. Everyone is equal.” Or you have the overly tough, almost coming off as bitter ones saying “No one cares about you. You’re not better than anyone. Get over yourself.” Like what an ass hole way of saying “How dare you think so highly of yourself?” lol self worth and self love is only beneficial if you have to keep being told that you are worthy. If you figure it out for yourself
