Boney M didn't sing himself but he wasn't hated as much as the guys. Besides, to be honest, without the guys the songs wouldn't have been nearly as successful because they embodied it well. People loved their energy.

i don't understand what the fuss was all about. Every single touring artist in the world, then and now, uses voice assist, voice matching, voice stacking and voice replacement (lip synching) on stage. They would not survive 6 months of touring with performances every 2 days without it, especially the "big voice" shows. It's not the whole show, it's bits and pieces as needed. The artist can signal the sound captain, who can instantly switch in and out, or the sound engineer or sound manager can determine it for themselves and make the switch. Sometimes whole songs, sometimes on the high passages, sometimes on transitions or dance sequences or costume changes. But everyone does it. Otherwise, their music is not my type, but a lot of people liked them at one time
