I’ve been in the same relationship for the past 14 years and we decided way back at the start that Valentine’s Day was commercial nonsense , cards , flowers and inflated restaurant prices.

It creates pressure and expectations that couples frankly could do without and likely a few arguments and hurt feelings. It attempts to schedule romance , which is deeply personal , all of that with the added onslaught of couples living their fake best valentine vomiting their sickly cuteness over social media making it like a performance.

But it’s JUST a day ! And nothing to dread just “sheeple” sucking down the hype doing as their told to squandering money as if it were a true measure of love or romance

I my wife and i are meeting my brother and sister in law for dinner (their idea) then my wife and i are going to a symphony concert. Somewhere along the way, i will give her s special gift.

But to answer your question, I'm honestly kind of indifferent to it. I have only had one Valentine back in 2024 and that's honestly more than a lot of people can say.

It’s nice to have a moment to celebrate connection, affection, and appreciation, whether with a partner, friends, or even family. I don’t stress about expectations , I just enjoy the opportunity to show people I care.

I dread it more than anything else because it’s a bullshit made up day for business's to make money , they jack up the prices on everything. We as people don’t need a day to show our love and appreciation to someone we are in love with , or care about , if someone truly loved you they wouldn’t need Valentines Day to prove it. I show my love and appreciation to my girl every day , I don’t need a day just to prove it

I don’t mind finding reasons to celebrate and days to do so.

But they shouldn’t cause dread
If we’re single so be it. It’s not like it’s a mandatory thing to be dating on valentine’s day

Life is about one day after the other. It is life. So this day is one day that is not so special. It has made it where it takes away any spontaneity. No need to get drunk or cry in our soup. lol
