Do you listen to your coworkers' relationship drama, or do you try to ignore it?

One of my coworkers has so much drama in her relationship. I had to stop listening to it because she was never going to change anything about it.

When I used to work at a sales job before I chose a different career, nobody ever discussed their personal life at work because the entire building was an open spaced location where everybody could hear what everybody else was saying. I once got strangers giving me dirty looks because I was fighting over my dad over the phone when he wanted me to not show up for work days I agreed to show up for, because he wanted me to rest more.

I was furious he wanted me to break my commitment to paid work and I was fighting with my dad over the phone because I had no choice but to to fight over somebody who wanted to ban me from showing up for work against my will. People were saying I sounded too agitated and aggressive and loud because I was trying to talk over my dad who kept interrupting me and not letting me finish my sentence when we fought over the phone.

So nobody had a private life at work. Everybody could see, watch, and hear, everybody else, all the time.

In the summer I often have to work with one of my sisters who has always some relationship drama going on so I just smile and nod a lot.

I avoid getting personal with colleagues -- they aren't friends. Discussing personal matters at work is a sign of a very lonely life. You are right to not get drawn in. You can't help them and you don't go to work to be an amateur relationship counselor.

You did the right thing. Constant drama with zero growth is emotional spam. If someone keeps ignoring red flags, staying with a walking 🚩, and just lovebombs you with complaints, it drains your energy.

I listen a bit at work, give one solid take, then emotionally clock out. You’re not a therapist and you’re not her emotional dumpster.

Typically I wouldn't want to hear it. Those relationships exist on a primal , reptile level. Reason isn't going to apply much.

I worked with a guy like that and at times I felt nauseous listening to him. He was such a whiny bitch that it was no surprise his girlfriend would disappear for days!

I listen I just don't waste my energy on it by offering advice or caring or anything really but what else are you going to listen to.. the radio.. At least she ain't trying to sell ya nothin
