The way I see it, people already talk to ai like it's their friend. Imagine what it's going to be like when something way smarter than that can jump in the car with you and push the cart around while you shop at the supermarket. Or pass you a tool when you're under your car.

How about telling you when you've drank too much or someone to bounce ideas with on your drive home from a stressful day at work?

And not only can these robots do the things most people don't know how to do for their friends, they can come with you to work and make you infinitely better at your job.

I think the robot you own is gonna signal your finincial class more than a car one day.

A domestic robot is an autonomous or semi-autonomous machine designed to assist with household chores, cleaning, security, and companionship to improve quality of life. Some recent time robots range from specialized vacuum cleaners to advanced AI-powered humanoids. They are designed to work within a residential environment, helping to manage daily tasks. Robotic vacuum machines mops, and cleans windows. Garden or Lawn-mowing robots and swimming pool cleaners are in use in some hotels and in the house of rich people, who do not like men in their privet places. Social robots provide interaction, pet-like companionship, or assist elderly individuals for some daily activities. Autonomous security and surveillance drones or mobile robots monitor for intruders. All these devices use Artificial Intelligence (AI), computer vision, and sensors based on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals and pre feed map to navigate, and react to their environment, according to programmes designed for them. They are much costly and need frequent maintenance, but there is a move toward more capable humanoid helpers that can perform complex, multi-functional, and autonomous housework. As car was a luxury few years back, but common vehicle of transport now, same thing is expected for domestic robots. Many industries are using robots in their production line, and in medical and health care system, robotic surgeries are taking place rapidly. In short, YES robots will be as common as having a car in near future.

Not a chance in hell. I don't think introverted people will want some weird quasi humanoid tin can bugging them all the time. It would be stressful for them to have an extra artificial personality constantly annoying them. Very emotionally needy extroverts might like chat robots to keep them company, but probably everyone except those very damaged people with mental illnesses will not need an emotional support robot. Overall it's not practical to have some costly, heavy, space taking object, with high upkeep, that can be stolen to bounce ideas off of when you can already do that with a small lightweight computer that can fit in your pocket. Even then many people do not like artificial personalities, they enjoy genuine human interactions. You can see how most people on this site for example hate the AI personalities. Other people will have personal reservations about security because they don't want some mobile robot that monitors them and reports home to corporate keeping tabs on them. It's like a prison ankle monitor. Other people will have safety concerns over some psychopath tin can living in their home while they sleep while they have vulnerable children or pets around if it malfunctions or is secretly programmed to do something undesirable by the company that built it which doesn't have your best interest in mind. It's an unnecessary cost for most people so that alone will discourage many people from wanting one. There are so many objections that easily come to mind, it's easy to see that personal chat robots are just a hype bubble to push stock pumps. Can they be used on an industrial level to replace some human labor? Sure. Being that they take people's jobs that will lead to even more backlash. Humanoid robots will be disliked to a very large degree.

In fact I would go so far as to say that many people would reject owning a robot because the insurance costs alone would be unreasonable due to all the vandalism from angry humans that abuse them.

Humans love slaying monsters. Robots are already ingrained in human culture as a monster in a number of sci-fi dystopian horror films. So people will naturally react to them appropriately and slay the monster.

Nobody even has to dehumanize them to encourage "racism" toward robots and extermination of their kind. It's a natural imperative, a survival instinct, survival of the fittest. Human at large will go to war with robots.

and as you can see military robots are one of the first uses in the design process... It's like the engineers that claim to believe in the technology already secretly hate robots and want to see their destruction.

Nope, I just understand that humans are apex predators and thus anything that is a challenge to our existence will be attacked and killed. Humans are hard wired with an instinctual compulsion to attack robots. Most humans hate robo-calls, they hate AI voices at call centers, they hate chat bots, and they will hate robots. People continuously say they want to talk to a real human, and they want that human to be from their country so that they can relate to one another and communicate well. People continuously report that robots with human like features and body language are creepy. People continuously report that AI chat bots lie their ass off and are untrustworthy. People know that robots are a problem, but maybe some people want them created for the thrill of the hunt or something. It's like big game hunting... Maybe they want to feel the rush of blowing up a robot. Who knows... Everyone knew the nuclear bomb was bad but we made it and used it. Now we use it for utility to generate electricity and have neutered the tech. The same will happen to robots. Mobile human robots that self repair and refuel with personalities that can be jail-broken are a bad idea all around. Robotic arms in factories that just carry out repetitive tasks are fine. There's a line that should not be crossed and people are crossing it right now... Thus a lot of people will pay for that mistake with their life eventually, until the world agrees to fix it.

I think a robotic personal assistant will eventually become relatively commonplace, at least for upper middle class households, and above, but I think we're at least a few decades away from that, yet.

The technology just isn't there, yet, and even when we do reach that level, it'll be a while longer before your own personal JARVIS is affordable for most households.

Most people have some form of robot now. This will only increase as advancements are made.
