I would say before he reaches the stage of being mean. When he shows indifference, or is evasive.

I don't judge a relationship by the time he spends with me. We both have our own space. I understand he needs time to spend with his friends or on a hobby. He knows I need my space as well.

Possible. Though an earlier sign is he becomes indifferent to you.
