Why do men in relationships need their ego stroked by other women?

This question ( link ) was asked before but didn't get much response, so I figured I'd ask.

For guys that are in relationships, why do you feel the need to get attention/flirt with other women?

I've had issues in the past with my boyfriend doing this, and it nearly ended our relationship because he was being blatantly disrespectful. He said it's because of his insecurities and him just being stupid and not thinking.

We guys are on add lot. I have a theory about why we have the urge to look and flirt with other women. I believe men have a genetic urge to have sex with as many women as we possibly can because deep down at the genetic level we are still "heard animals". On an anthropological scale it hasn't been all that long since we were hunter gatherers. It was important for all the males to have sex with as many females as possible to continue our species. Men also have an urge to forward THEIR DNA and prevent the spread of others. This is where animal harems come from. Women have different urges that I'm sure if you looked at from this context you could also see.

Unfortunate for men, looking, flirting and having sex with multiple partners is not as socially acceptable as it once was.

I think stroking our egos helps us with that.

Also, a beautiful woman gets complimented frequently. Even if it's just being aware that others are looking at her. Guys don't generally get this unless they are strikingly handsome. We want the opposite sex to admire us as well just like women do. And by general rule, women don't compliment guys. So we have to seek it out.

I agree with this. I understand this biological predisposition, but we're also intelligent beings that have the ability to override these predispositions. We've overcome so many predispositions that what I don't understand is why, when this is presented as a hindrance, men continue to do it.

Because intelligence doesn't kill nature. Intelligence doesn't decrease our level of testosterone. Essentially, we are still cavemen.

Nice try. It's women that do this. Women get all dressed up, go out, and really appreciate the looks they get from other men. They like getting the compliments and looking is a form of a compliment.

My ex was like that he always tolde girls were always telling him he's good looking and such a good guy it got wkrse when we broke uo he felt the need to constantly tell me things about other girls its immaturity ego boosting and insecurity but it gets so played out

That's because they still like the attention from other women.
