It was considered a filthy animal, by those who never cared for nor understood pigs.
(Pigs are actually very clean, intelligent, emotionally complex and can be domesticated, not just used as livestock.)

Because they are omnivorous, they eat just about anything, including carrion, though obviously they don't have to - they will eat what you give them. So if they are filthy carrion eaters, or garbage eaters it's because their owner or farmer did not feed them decently.

Maimonides, the Jewish philosopher, legal codifier, and court physician to the Muslim sultan Saladin in the 12th century, argued that the meat of the forbidden animals, birds, and fish is unwholesome and indigestible. He was obviously wrong. He also claimed the pig is a filthy animal, and if swine were used for food, marketplaces and even houses would be dirtier than latrines. Again - wrong.

According to the Greek historian Herodotus, the Scythians had a taboo against the pig, which was never offered in sacrifice, and apparently the Scythians were loath to so much as keep swine within their lands.

Scots, particularly Highlanders, held a prejudice against pork, or a superstitious attitude toward pigs, though it's generally agreed to have disappeared by 1800.

And the Muslims didn't really need a reason - they are allowed to eat pork in cases of emergency, provided it's not done as an act of rebellion. They believe good and evil qualities are transferred by eating an object carrying a certain quality. If you eat something evil, then that also affects your soul. The pig has evil qualities. Go figure.

There is also a story that says pigs were created to eat wastes and that all the waste (shit) on Noah's Ark was eaten by the pigs. This is of course, laughable.

This depends on who you ask. I've heard everything from because pigs are dirty animals to pork has a certain type of fat not found in any other animal which slowly eats away at your health. The real answer has to do with the time and place Islam has its roots. In those days, people didn't know much about good hygiene practices and what temperature meat should be cooked at in order to be safe to consume. Pigs also have DNA closer to humans than most other farm animals and this actually helped infections be transmitted from pigs to humans easier than from other animals to humans. So there is a scientific explanation behind it although ancient Muslims weren't aware of that. However, they did notice the effects and put it down to a religious nonexplanation. Pork is also a forbidden meat in the other Abrahamic religions because they all came from a similar place where the climate was relatively dry and the right vegetation didn't grow to nourish swine sufficiently to keep them in good health. If you eat the meat of a sick animal, you will probably get sick too.

Pork is haram (forbidden) because firstly God told us in the Quran, and secondly a pig is an unclean animal.

Not only do pigs live in unclean conditions, but pigs will eat pretty much anything you put in front of them from their own poop to a dead human body. For thousands of years people built toilets over pigsties because pigs can obtain almost all their nutrition from human poop- I mean, imagine that: people feeding pigs their own poop and then eating those pigs or giving the pigs to somebody else to eat? Ew. Additionally, pigs are known to harbor bacteria, viruses and parasites.

Honestly I love it when people are like: “Aww I feel bad for Muslims, they can’t eat pork” but knowing stuff like this- would you really want to?😅

I didn't really like that photo, it doesn't reflect muslims much. That's what written in the holy quran, so they obey it. The reason of it is, pigs are the animals that on the same trophic level with humans so the biological waste accumulation is the same as us. So the teachers are saying that the reason pork is haram in islam. Also there is that reason, pigs are dirty they say. İt's easier to get sick from a pig so thats the reason I think. For muslums, the hygene is so important there is a thing called "abdest" which means ablution. You clean yourself frequently with water, you cannot pray if you are not clean, muslums pray five times a day.

It's a sanitary rule made a religious rule.
Back when that rule was made, most people wouldn't understand why pork meat could be dangerous under that climate. Pork meat can't be preserved well in hot climates, and the concept of bacteria wasn't a thing.
How could you make people avoid it without being able to tell them why? Make it a religious rule. People won't understand it, but since it's asked by their god, they won't question it.
Today, that rule isn't relevant anymore, as we know how to preserve meat. But people still won't question religion, and as stupid as that rule is, as well as many others, people will follow it.

Because, according to Islam, pigs are dirty animals and pork is prohibited in the Islamic book of religion. Pigs are animals that eat their own droppings. Pork is very high in fat and goes directly into the blood of the person consuming it.
According to Islam, one of the reasons why pork is prohibited is that it harms human health. Therefore, eating pork is a sin in Islam.

It's easy to understand why. Let me explain, for example, we are human beings, so we don't eat other human beings.
Likewise, pigs do not eat other pigs, so to avoid pigs eating other pigs, it was made haram in Islam.
