Because I'm not religious neither I believe in a magical force that because someone did something good/bad, the opposite will happen to them.

Closest I believe to karma, is the notion that if you do something bad, you might feel bad about it or something bad can come out of it, and viceversa if you do good. But no more than that

  Expanding on that... you feel bad and as quantum physics have shown your thoughts influence matter... so not forgiving yourself is punishing yourself, even think of it raising your stress hormones chronically.

People tend to punish people that wrong them, when possible. That's the only karma that exists in the world. Treat enough people badly and someone is eventually going to hurt you back.
